German Eastern Front

I am sure that it's been discussed, however, what if the Nazis had decided to use chemical weapons against the Soviets? As in mustard gas, like in the great war.

My main question is if it would work in 1944 to halt the Soviets counter attack

The Allies promised if the Germans used chemical weapons they would too and in their heavy bombing raids of German cities, which would increase casualties tremendously and render cities uninhabitable. So if Germans did millions would die above and beyond OTL losses.

Well that sums up why it was never used. However, does that promise swing for the Soviets, if used only on them? Would they risk liberating more of Europe and all of Germany just for the Communists losing more lives and grounds, that is if the chemical weapons were to have that added advantage for the Germans in the east
