Germainic Union

I'm asking this for a TL, i haven't done much research into it yet; But if through some way the German confederation federalizes with Austria (I read somewhere and even saw a map of what the new country would look like.) Leaving hungary and czecho-slovakia as crown lands.

If this German empire would enter into a personal union with the kingdom of the Netherlands (including belgium and luxemboro) and eventually that federalizes (in the same way as the OTL german empire) into a Germainic Union.

Now given this new Greater germany, how would (if it even happened) WWI go. I'm assuming since Belgium is a part of the Netherlands England has no reason for declaring war aside from fear of losing its status.

So how the world turn out?

Well, until about the Thirty Years War, IIRC, there was the possibility, far in the future, of a Greater Germanic union, someday far off that included Austria. Afterwards, it basically fell apart. Of course, this is remembered from stuff I read LONG ago, so I may be off quite a bit.

Going off my limited knowledge of the subject, I would think the method through which the Austro-German union is formed would have a lot to do with Big Germany’s political policies and stances (including WWI). As to WWI itself, I’m sure Big Germany could handle well if it is a straight up slugfest between itself and France with Russia. Though, I doubt London would be comfortable allowing one power to dominate the continent. Italy could be a wildcard in the war, depending on when Austria and the Germanys united. However, I’m not sure how the peoples of the Lowlands would feel under imperial control (ie Spain-granted that is a different scenario), or the various peoples under Austria’s umbrella. Perhaps nationalistic rebellions stunt the German warmachine. History from there would be very hard to pin down, it would rely upon the outcome of WWI, and the states involved.

I hope that helps abit?

actually you just said everything I've been thinking about. (i tend to plan TLs in my head all the time)

But what i was thinking is that the nederlands were a great power (though they did decline after losing 1/3 there population) But if they don't lost the other low countries.

Also germany almost won the first world war by itself, so if saw a union between Prussia and Austria with Bismark as PM would be unstoppable I think, especially add in the nederlands and who knows.

Could this state win a two front war with Russia and France?

The likelihood of a Germanic union which involved Austria, was, I believe 200, 300 years dead at the most, and in the last, dead with Napoleon. Though, this isn't my area of specialty...

Great minds right?

To Mr.Candy Dragon, the Congress of Frankfurt hotly debated the issue of a Big Germany (With Austria) and a Small Germany (without Austria). It is less plausible to include Austria true, but there’s enough room for, what if?

I do believe Germany could curbstomp the decadent French army given free reign through their controlled Belgium. That changes if Britain decides to hop aboard (though honestly, if the German army is not tied up in Belgium, I could see a much more rapid march on Paris.) So, moving over to Russia, I think the German’s might have an easier time, but also a wider front than in our own history. These are pretty rough but:

France, Russia vs. Germany- France goes down relatively quickly if focused upon first. Russia will have a tough time staying afloat. (Not really a WW in the traditional ((and in my opinion, wrong)) sense.)

France, Russia vs. Germany, Italy- Better shot for Germany than above. But problematic with the whole Austrian thing.

France, Russia, Italy vs Germany- probable German success, however, there is a lot more room for the German army to get bogged down by multiple fronts/rebellions.

Triple Entente, Italy vs Germany- Anybody’s ball game, though, slated early on in Germany’s favor. As it drags on, to the allies.

This is impossible with a POD after 1815. The Dutch constitution makes it impossible for the Netherlands to form a personal union with another nation (besides Luxemburg).

so what if Napolean creates a federation of the rhine including the netherlands (who get belgium back after Napoleon looses.) Prussia and Austria (after their defeat). That intern declares war on Napoleon and after the congress of vienna becomes a united kingdom?
