George W Bush presidency if he were not an oilman

Hi! I haven't thought this through all that much, but here goes.

Suppose that George W. Bush gains the White House in 2000 as in our time line. However, he has roughly the same campaign contribution distribution as some of the other Republican presidential candidates. In particular, he isn't as focused on oil.

How would history be different? Assume 9/11 still happens.

I would expect that we probably wouldn't have invaded Iraq (and stopped with Afghanistan), and we would have probably done more with altenative energy.

Was George W Bush really an oilman though, or did he just involve himself in the oil industry because it would be to his advantage in Texas state politics?
