George VI born first

Another wi regarding the Windsors. Say George VI and his brother Edward VIII switched birth orders with George VI being the eldest what would this change?

Naturally one would would think there'd be no abdication crisis. George might even marry someone completely different to who he married otl. Would he retain a similar personality or would having been groomed for the throne since birth completely change him?

Everything. Neither man would be the man of OTL, and instead would be fundamentally different from their OTL counterparts because they'd be completely different people.

Interesting, so would George VI have the potential to be a man similar to his father? Stern, driven and duty bound? Instead of being a nervous wreck when given the crown?

James G

He wasn't a nervous wreck, he had a speech impediment - a serious life affecting condition.

I know about the speech impediment, that's not what I was referring to. What I was referring to where the numerous sources that say the king didn't want the crown and wasn't able to deal effectively with the strain said that it brought. Hence the saying that being king killed him

Potentially. He also has the potential to by the worst Monarch since Charles I. There's enough variables with this PoD it's hard to really say anything without stabbing into the dark.

This is true, I suppose a more detailed plan would help. By this point was the role of the monarch merely ceremonially? Or did they still exercise some influence?

Yes to both. Monarch still exerts influence even in the defanged state, obviosuly, but Parliament is and has been supreme for a long time at the point of OTL Edward's birth.

Alright interesting. I suppose keeping that sort of arrangement with the monarch having some powers behind the scenes allowing politicians to take flak when things go wrong would be best?
