In OTL, he died falling off a horse. What if he had lived longer and how would that affect succession plans??
I suppose you could have butterflies in the next few years and have Chagtai get elected instead of Ogedai,
I doubt it. Genghis was pretty adamant about keeping the empire united, and Chagatai had a pretty big bone to pick with the Jochids (which is totally against uniting the empire). Ogedei was chosen as a compromise, sometime shortly after the Khwarezmid campaign (1221).
