Actually, different sects and religions have slightly different ideas of what the First (and some other) commandments should be, although they strive towards the same goals in all: henotheism (or monotheism), respect for God, respect for elders and the holy day of the week, and respect for neighbors and their property, as well as for life and marriage.
The Ten Commandments, as (traditional) Judaism has them:
1. I am the Lord your God (although Reform would probably prefer a non-gendered version of "Lord". I recall people settling on "Adonai", but this is still a gendered word, stemming from "Adoni", I think. Hebrew suffers the misfortune here of being a gendered language, anyhow.)
2. You shall have no other Gods before me, and you shall not make yourself an idol
3. Do not take God's name in vain
4. Remember Shabbat and keep it holy
5. Honor your parents.
6. You shall not murder (word in italics is important because Catholicism renders it "kill")
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal (and/or kidnap)
9. You shall not bear false witness against a neighbor
10. You shall not covet (and/or take) your neighbor's wife or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
In Catholicism, the Commandments are:
1. I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before me, and you shall not make an idol. (Catholicism has no problems with referring to God in the masculine gender. However, other religions and sects have called Catholicism out on its use of icons, which are "venerated" not "worshipped".)
2. Don't take God's name in vain.
3. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
4. Honor your parents
5. You shall not kill
6. You shall not commit adultery
7. You shall not steal
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's property.
Lutheranism mostly uses the Catholic version, except that some churches have it that
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's house
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife or property.
Orthodox Christianity uses the Jewish version of #10 and writes the first two commandments as
1. I am the Lord your God, and you shall have no other Gods before me.
2. You shall not make an idol. (Orthodox Christianity also has no problem with "venerated" icons...)
The other Christian divisions begin the Commandments with "You shall have no other gods before me", and consider "I am the Lord your God" to be a preface. They use the Jewish version of number 10.
