General alternate Cold War chat

Given the presence of multiple alternate Cold War projects coming out:

Let's chat about kalterkriegs!

I'll kick things out: question- suppose a Byzantine British Empire scenario occurs- the Nazis knock out Great Britain from the war, install Edward VIII upon the throne, the rest of the royals and many anti-German politicians flee to Canada and the Empire (minus obligatory racist South Africa, of course). In such a scenario, where the cold war is between the fascist nations and the remaining liberal democracies (and whatever husk of the Soviet Union remains, unless the Soviets are allied to the fascists, shudder), would it be possible for the British, now based in Ottawa, to allow the independence of Quebec so that the Free French can have a base outside of its shaky colonial holdings (Algeria, Indochina) and backwater possessions (West Africa, Caribbean islands)?

I'm guessing that in this scenario, a lot of French move to Algeria or the West Indies, and a lot of Britons will leave for Canada and Australia.

As a side note, what happens to India in this scenario? Does independence happen any earlier or is it put off for a few years? Does the partition still occur?

I'm gonna go the whole hog and say Dunkirk Halifax Armistice

Ok - followed by Germans attack a _prepared_ USSR, overrun by Soviets by '45. [1]

Heisenberg Nukes

Still trying to breed plutonium in their first working reactor when the Soviets march in.

Hey, why not use the Soviets? Soviets get Heisenberg and the German reactor, first bomb by '47 (six months before the UK: no war, no US Manahattan project,at least not on a huge scale) and as a result of the UK bomber crisis of '54 (UK trying to built up its air arm to the degree where it can credibly threaten cities in the Soviet heartland, with the US providing massive hardware) the UK is nuked and the UK government flees to Canada.

[1] Lack of lend-lease and no US second front balanced out by no initial great German success.

I dunno, for the purposes of the thread I'm just using the scenario linked in the OP, at least with regards to the question in the OP.

My actual project is much more elaborate, including a Japanese nuclear project begun in the '30s, a softer German policy toward anti-Soviet Slavs, a lot of cribbing from the GURPS Reich-X timelines, a lot of handwaving about Barbarossa, and ends up a six- or seven- way "cold war." Though the "Churchill flees to Canada after Edward VIII comes to power, will Quebec be given to the Free French?" question still holds for both scenarios. As for the stuff you came up with, I do think I can use some of it; the idea of the Soviets nuking Britain during a three-way cold war is amusing, especially if it leads to the Nazis establishing a fascist-friendly puppet regime there.
