Gay Bomb?

Forgive me if my knowledge is inaccurate, as I got the idea from the History Channel, but here goes...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_bomb

Given that the project was apparently in progress in 1994, let's say the USAF or Department of Defense go ahead with the project, and test the weapon (and an antidote) by 2000. What effects would this have on American conflicts later? Assuming there is still a major terror attack by 2002, and Bush (or McCain) win in 2000, how would this effect the War on Terror or an equivalent?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the question of whether the weapon would be subject to Chemical Weapons treaties; I imagine there'd be a major debate on it...

EDIT ADD:

Couldn't a term for it be Gaypalm?

It doesn't seem like a very effective weapon. You could drop it in San Fransisco and there wouldn't be a huge difference. :p

I really think this would effect the gay rights movement way more than it'd effect warfare.

I never quite got why they thought the gay bomb would work, would it make people gay or just so horny it didn't matter, the latter might work as a weapon but the former you'd still be fighting the same people but they're gay

Could you imagin droping it on some jihadis :) they would probably commit mass sucide after the effects wear off. It could be new level of threats to iran there not afraind of dieing but how about being gay.

Ideally, both. The idea is that the USAF and DoD build a bomb that makes those who smell the pheramones released, well, basically gay nymphomaniacs.

I know my fair share of gay nymphomaniacs, I would not want to get into a fight with any of them.

Well, I guess I didn't explain it quite right. The idea is that it would be detonated over an enemy outpost. The enemy soldiers would smell the pheramones, and instantly go into an orgy (not so simplistic, but that's what DoD and USAF were hoping for). This incapacitates them.

The question now is whether this is governed by chemical warfare treaties. On the one hand, it's a chemical weapon. On the other, it's nonlethal, and so could be classified as nothing more than a special type of smoke grenade.

sounds like the whole idea is a mix of Junk Science and homophobic stereotypes, than again we are talking about the USA military

I don't see how this would be effective, unless it turned enemy forces into stereotypical gays, rather than just making them want to fuck one-another.

I was thinking there was pot and children's cartoons mixed in there as well, but that's another story.

But regarding Zac's earlier comment, what effect would this have on the domestic US LGBT movement? If it emerges that the US military used a weapon to turn people gay, and it worked (let's suspend disbelief for a moment and assume it does), how would this affect the movement?

Gay extremist groups try to steal the chemical and put it in the entire South's water supply?

Actually I just remembered something that I read about on a thread about historical movies (in the FH section I think). Someone was talking about this old story where an ancient Greek state was at war with Sparta, they were desperate so they decided that the only way to survive was to encourage homosexuality in their army, the idea being that lovers would fight harder to keep each other safe. Oddly enough it actually worked and they beat the Spartans.

Now if I can ask a question, are these guys getting really horny and shagging anything, or are do the pheremones play with their emotions and make them actually "love" each other? Because if they become lovers the marines who come by to kill them are fucked.

Yes, if I recall that was Thebes.

No, just screwing. The idea behind it is to incapacitate the enemy, not make them into a remake of the Sacred Band.
