What if the Germans used gas for the first time at Verdun? Initial tests still occur on the Eastern Front, with secondary tests occurring against Serbia. Also to make things a bit more interesting, the attack occurs on the 29th of February, meaning the the build up happens under the cover of storm and the troops are not delayed ten days and forced to spend it in bunkers. This means the troops are fresh and ready for a fight instead of tired, sick, and hungry. Does this give the Germans the edge to breakthrough to the city proper?

i dont believe so... the germans hadnt really gotten their gas methods down yet. when it was used at nueve chappelle it wasnt launched from shells instead the germans used pressurized cylinders and waited for a favorable wind

if verdun was the first time this was tried it would kill everybody allies and germans alike

verdun is basically a depression or soup bowl shaped position
the gas would linger in the lower areas and in the bunkers
the germans if this was the first time wouldnt have good masks so they couldnt take the ground they had smoked out
