Garand M1 and Royalties from Patent

John Garand developed and patented the M1 rifle. He signed over the rights to the US Government in 1936 and never collected a penny in royalties.

How much per rifle would he have been awarded (the US Government made something like 6.5 million rifles).

He would be richer than Roosevelt!

I am not sure it would have to be an agreed % of each rifle or a one off sum?

He might have done an Alec Guinness who agreed to play Obi Wan in Star wars as a favour and said oh sod it just give me 2% of the profits (seriously expecting it to be a flop) - he made a %^$& ton of greenbacks

So John G might have asked for a paltry amount say 1% per rifle expecting a few hundred thousand to be made for the relatively small peacetime US Army only to get 1% of the 5.5 million or so guns made?

Was he not a full time federal employee for the entire time (1919-1953) ? Would he be allowed to claim for something developed on work time?

supposedly, Pedersen got some Royalties from the M1 Garand production, as the En-Bloc clip was close to the earlier design of his toggle lock rifle
