Gandhi Killed By a Muslim

I'm reading "Afghanistan: A Military History from Alexander The Great to the Fall of the Taliban" by Stephen Tanner.

In the book, he makes the claim that had a Muslim instead of a Hindu killed Gandhi, the entire Subcontinent might have gone up in flames. I'm assuming this is due to all the murder and mayhem resulting from the Partition.

Is this something that's plausible?

It wouldn't help but I think there was enough gas on the fire either way. It would probably be a thing brought up in arguments but I'm not sure if it would have geopoltical influences. I think it depends on WHICH Muslim and if he was just crazy or if he went in thinking "I'm going to kill this Hindu"..
