[Gaming WI] - A French Console?

Right, so we have had some gaming powerhouses come out of France (or entrench themselves in Francophone Quebec), including the likes of Ubisoft and Vivendi. A French company for a while even owned Atari as Atari Inc. SA until the company went bankrupt earlier in the decade and the property got spun off.

But was there ever the possibility for a French console to be made? Perhaps an Atari microconsole like the Flashback system is the easy way to go, but could have Ubisoft or Vivendi ever stepped forward and assumed the mantle? Or some other third party that I'm unaware off?

Thanks in advance.

how was france microcomputer market in the 70s or 80s? if good enought they could have put a french equivalent SMS or Genesis and be sucessful.

I don't know about France but, if Olivetti had survived as a computer company they could've gone into the video game business for sure; if Mario Zhu doesn't die in a car accident in 1961... well, that guy was a visionary, and he was only 37 when he died. He was held back only by bureaucracy and the secret services of the United States of America - if what they said in a recent interview is true, he was actually killed and, considering what the US secret services did during the Cold War, it's not really a conspiracy theory.
