But Pitt had nowhere near the support for this. The British Parliament in 1775 was basically covnvinced the colonials would give up after a swift kick.

That seems about right. Lord North had his head so far up his ass that he could practically see his tonsils.
But if we could get the Marquess of Rockingham back into power...then perhaps Parliament would approve of the measure. IIRC the Rockingham Whigs opposed many of the measure enacted by Lord North and sought reconciliation in the post war period.
