Gabriel Narutowicz not assassinated?

Gabriel Narutowicz was elected first president of Second Republic of Poland. He was assassinated within days of taking the office. His death was an indirect result of intense anti-presidential campaign by Endecja, yet it was not directly sponsored or commissioned. Thus it is relatively easy to butterfly away.

Then, what if Narutowicz lives?

Er, what? Surviving Narutowicz pretty much butterflies away the May Coup of 1926. Although, in TTL there's a higher chance of nationalist coup. Which possibly would be put down by MARSHAL Jozef Pilsudzki. Historical irony - in TTL he'd save democracy in Poland...

I think there would inevitable power struggle between Narutowicz and Gen. Pilsudzki by the late 1920's.

Interesting possibilities, as mentioned there's a possibility that Poland remain democratic for much longer. A coup attempt by Dmowski could be possible, and if Pilsudski put it down, which he'd probably do, and he'd save democracy, at least for a while.

However, that's only possibilities, the Narutowicz government might not be stable. Narutowicz was liked by the national minorities in Poland, and that meant many Poles saw him as the Foreigner's choice. If the president instead become very disliked, it's possible the presidential office lose all it's credibility and power. Then anything could happen.

He was, but a few years down the road that relationship will begin to sour. President Narutowicz will be unwilling to become a 'rubber stamp' or figurehead to Marshall Pilsudski and may be incline to check his political power. That's where the rivalry and showdown will come to play.
