Just a little Russian map I cannibalized
yeah.... i should have mentioned thatThe Kamchatka Peninsula?
Far too quick. Kamchatka may appeal to people who are looking to turn their back on the world (it's certainly inhospitable enough, the equivalent of "green martyrdom"), but you can't have a city established, sea lanes explored, and a knowledge base disseminated to the point of large-scale colonization in just fifty years. The Norse colonization of the Atlantic islands took longer, and they had a seafaring tradition, much larger numbers, and much shorter distances to cover.
