Full scale Japanese invasion of China 1931

Say the 1931 Japanese invasion of Manchuria escalates into general Japanese-Chinese war

Would Japan be be more or less successfully in conquering large parts of China

What would be the international reaction

Considering that Japan was wildly successful in their 37' invasion and it was only because of Pearl Harbor and the perilous prospects of a two front war that China wasn't consumed completely. One imagines international condemnation would be just as strong. Only difference is China would not have benefitted from the military personnel and expertise from Nazi Generals so they probably do that much worst on the field.
