From Springfield to Washington: the Rise of the Sixth Party System

June, 16, 1952:
Dwight D. Eisenhower suffers a massive heart attack and is rushed into care. He is pronounced DOA and the nation mourns the loss of a hero.

July, 11, 1952:
Robert A. Taft is chosen as the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States.

November, 4, 1952:
Adlai Stevenson wins over Taft in a landslide:

Stevenson/Sparkman(383 EVs.)

Taft/Stassen (148 EVs.)

Note: Yes, it's a full version of this post. I should note that Stevenson's term ITTL will be somewhat similar to how it is portrayed in The Red's excellent TL, "Down the Road to Defeat." After all, we're working with the same material and tools. However, after 1960, things will change drastically form it. The only other similarity we have is both being Democrat Wanks. Go read Down the Road to Defeat though, as I said, it's excellent. Also, side note: Little vote: Should I delete the Footnotes on the original post now that i'm making a full TL? Also, I should note that the title is from this post from Mr. E who is also a very intelligent guy. Well, either way, strap in for my first TL that's not a complete piece of crap! See you in a week!

1953
The Stevenson Administration is just settling into office and things go well for a first year. It's policies consists of extensions of FDR's New Deal policies to new groups of people as well as national infrastructure building. The national economy is booming. In a major accomplishment for the Stevenson Administration, Senator Joseph McCarthy is Censured by the Senate in September of 1953, his Communist Witch Hunts over. In International Relations, Stalin passes away on February, 22 and is succeeded by Nikita Khrushchev who is far less isolationist then Stalin and more Liberal so this years sees the start of increased freedoms and bettering relations between the US and USSR. In Science, the DNA Double Helix is discovered by the team of Francis Crick. James D. Watson and Rosalind Franklin, all of whom who will win the Nobel Prize In Medicine in 1957. Another future Nobel Prize In Medicine winner is Jonas Salk who, this year, invents the first Polio Vaccine. In Pop Culture, Disney makes the movie Peter Pan which is quite a bit darker then OTL's version with Captain Hook portrayed far more threateningly and with no "What Makes The Red Man Red." That said, it is still very successful with critics and audiences. Fawcett Comics wins their trial with DC and keeps the rights to the Captain Marvel franchise. Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel is a massive success. It's been a good year. Will the next one go so well?
