French Victory in the Four Years War

The Four Years War, which was fought between the alliance of France and Venice, and the alliance of the Hapsburg Empire and the Papal States, was fought due to Francis I losing the Imperial election (of which how is that even possible, considering that neither France or its territories were subject to the HRE) The war ended with the Treaty of Madrid which forced Francis to abandon his claims to Artois, Flanders and Milan, which of course was broken upon the King's return to France.

But what if France, against all odds, won the war with Spain and the HRE, which seems a difficult challenge since France was surrounded by enemies, would France be able to gain said territories, or would their be other territorial concession made in a pro-French peace?

Anyone can run for Emperor, they simply have to be Christian, male, and of a certain age. They are plenty of Emperor's who came outside the empire aside from Charles V. François I was probably the most significant threat since then, although his ability to bribe anyone was elipsed by the work Charles did with the Fuggers. The Staufens held Naples and Sicily for a significant time, and many anti-Emperors were often drawn from abroad such as Alfonso of Castile and one of the sons of the English King IIRC.

Ah, I didn't know, I thought that the Emperor had to be from within the Empire itself. The more you know I guess.
