French Revolution in an ARW with a British Victory

It is a well known fact that the French Revolution was influenced by the U.S. winning the war, but on the other hand, its roots were far deeper. The first signs were criticisms of French Mercantilism around Louis XIV's death early in the century due to a bubble involving the Mississippi Company, which involved bankrupcy over a currency shortage from goods coming from New France. Many of the Philosophes wrote before 1776, and Voltaire passed away in the OTL war as an elderly man. What is unclear is what would it have been like and would Washington and Jefferson have been martyrs?

to much is made on here and in general about the impact the American war of independence had on the French revolution, so i agree with Samcster94! the issues with France were first tax structure then bad harvests and class structure putting pressure on the Ancien regieme that led to the calling of the parliaments to raise more money then the revolution. No AWI means that they would possibly have more cash, however the idiotic nature of the monarchy in France at this time meant that they would have peed it away on something else!

France spent a huge sum of money backing the American Revolution, thats where the big impact arises. A wealthier France has a much greater chance of curtailing the unrest before it explodes.

Krishna, I can totally see that. Also, I can imagine, though, that the issue of slavery(which they did abolish OTL, only for Napoleon to put it back) would likely have a different outcome. The alternate French Revolution would likely mourn the colonists, but this central civil rights issue would make different parts valued more. The left wing of the French Revolution would likely try to play up New England and the Puritans{given the French monarchy was stupid enough to persecute Protestants after promising to tolerate them}, given slavery was never especially widespread(and when it did happen, it was generally a house slave or two, not Georgia style plantation slavery) there.

Assuming they don't do something stupid like try to fight another war in India or try to retake Quebec. Well, one failure with partial reforms is not enough to completely stop it. Russia nearly had the Tsar overthrown in 1905, which failed. It alienated the left even more, and took away some of the Tsar's hardline base(who saw him as creating the Duma, an extremely limited legislative body that had a tiny suffrage pool). The real Revolution came a decade later.
