French Libya

There is either no 1902 secret treaty between France and Italy regarding Libya, or the French simply ignore it. Either way, France occupies Libya before the Italians do.

How does this shake things up?

That the attempt of reconciliation with Italy by the French will utterly fail, in OTL they obtained italy support for their expansion in Morocco and a clause that basically nullified the CP treaty...ITTL Italy will be much more obstile and stick with the Triple

Germany remembers that it is kind of allied to the Ottoman Empire and declares war on France.
BOOM!

What would France have to gain from Libya? A generation before the discovery of oil, there would be no economic rationale for the occupation. Internationally, this would start a war with the Ottomans, something that would have consequences elsewhere (What about colonized Muslims? What about Mount Lebanon?). It would also make Italy inveterately hostile: This would be the second time France has occupied a territory eyed by Italy as a future colony.

What would be the point?

The French can't OCCUPY it, it was a war - Italy had the whole black hole of Tripoli experience and barely exercised control in Cyrenaica

So to get it, France has to go to war with the Ottomans after 1900. Sure they CAN, but it is not going to be a rerun of the Italo-Turkish War but with the French instead
