[French India AH] - Alternate Geopolitics?

So... suppose that the French bag India instead of Great Britain. Perhaps Great Britain retains North America, perhaps they are dominant in the Caribbean, perhaps Africa is an earlier return on investment, envision whatever preceding or subsequent balances you might wish.

France was already the greatest land-power of Europe until the rise of Prussia, as evidenced by the Napoleonic and Revolutionary Wars. With French control of India (which must follow with control of either Egypt or South Africa...), they're pretty much the undisputed superpower that Britain was OTL, right?

So what are the reprucussions? OTL, we had the alliances that Britain funded against France during the 1800s, but is that sustainable in a world without India? With France on Central Asia's doorstep, does that make an Anglo-Russian alliance the counterpart to a French-dominated Europe? Can Austria maintain an anti-French position in the long term, given OTL's route against Napoleon? Does a divided Germany remain a series of client states? Does Scandinavia come into play at all? and what about outside of Europe? A French-Japanese alliance against China and Russia? French renewed involvement in the New World?

Any thoughts at all are most welcome.

Expansion of French India was rather at odds with main political conceptions both at Versailles and within the company : Dupleix's ambitions were considered too costly, both in resources and diplomatically (fearing it would turn into a expansion race with British India that couldn't be won, which is basically what happened).
One could say that a good PoD would be butterflying away Dupleix (or at least significantly limit his ambitions and expansion by killing him early on) to prevent this evolution, because while France is the main western continental power, her colonial policy until the mid XVIIIth was lacking both coherence and importance relatively to Britain or Netherlands.
Which of course, is more about a French India surviving alongside a British India struggling for influence on remaining hinterland native states (in the middle-term at least), but I fear this is the best you can have without necessiting a PoD in the XVIth century.

At best a French India would be concentrated in southern India and be in large part as result of french ally Mysore military power. The French could of carved themselves a substancial part of the empire but nowhere near what the British East India company did.
