french egypt

The question is indeed being able to hold it - not having the French fleet sunk would help. Or if not, having British support for Acre not be enough to prevent its fall. If the French can take the land they control into Anatolia, they can threaten the Ottoman state and at the same time open up overland supply routes.

What supply lines? The French army can feed itself off of Egypt. Napoleonic armies do not require elaborate logistical chains.
Guns? Powder? lead for shot?
If they're spending much of their effort forcing the locals to feed and clothe them, they have less effort available to fight off Brits (or Ottomans or ...)
