French Cuba

My question is, is there any point before 1803 that France could have gained Cuba from Spain? Could either the King or Napoleon have somehow conquered it or forced Spain to cede it to the French crown? Or alternatively, could the United Kingsom have gained the island perhaps in the French and Indian War or during our Revolution under some diplomatic maneuver?

Well, they could have just got there first....

Or possibly, the French could invade Spain at any point and annex it into Loisianna. If you want before 1803, then you can't use the Napoleonic Wars... hm. If France wins the Franco-Hapsburg war and becomes a power over Spain, is it possible they could explore Cuba first?

I'll give the Franco-Hapsburg War a look. If it were any point prior to 1840-48, could they conceivably annex it during the Napoleonic Wars or sometime soon after?
