French Civil War following CP Victory in WWI

As the title suggests, this scenario details the possibility of France becoming engulfed in a Civil War, or perhaps in something similar to the Paris Commune of 1871, in the wake of a defeat inflicted by the Central Powers following the Great War.

This is assuming a scenario in which the US did not become involved, Russia is in the midst of its own Civil War, and Germany, while victorious, has enough problems of its own sorting out the various ethnic struggles in Central Europe (like protecting its own ethnic minorities in countries on the brink of collapse like Austria-Hungary) to be able to intervene with an invasion (war ends at around 1917).

What sort of French state would emerge from this crisis?

Just for make thing interesting i will see a communist/socialist France that later help the socialist camen in power in Italy and Spain so to form a block against the reactionary Mitteleuropa

odds are a reactionary one instead of a socialist one. From what I know the majority of the french army (which is going to play a huge part at weither any revolution succeeds) was not in favor of socialism/communism. In fact from what I've read some of the French top command had plans in the event of a attempt to surrender to germany to blame the socialists and try to continue the war.

so odds are you'd have a far right wing highly reactionary government take power. Not necessarily a fascist one like Italy and certainly not like Nazi Germany. Probably more like Spain but not quite.

Now don't assume this means WW2 is going to happen again because even after OTL ww1 a defeated Germany was still more powerful then a victorious France. A France that loses ww1 (especially around 1917, which by then it would have been totally bankrupt and suffering from near financial collapse) would be the end of France as a Great Power.

However what territorial loses does France suffer? cause that would also have a huge impact on France's industrial abilities.

I can imagine someone like Charles Maurras being the head of an Accion Francaise monarchist regime, or an oligarchy of right wing generals led by Marshal Petain.

Socialists are likely to receive the brunt of the blame following a French loss in WWI.

Agree that a French loss in WWI combined with a French Civil War, most likely taking place between communists and the right wing groups, would probably spell the end of France as a Great Power. It would probably be reduced to a second tier similar to Spain or Italy, possibly able to maintain a few overseas colonies but unable to substantially make a difference in world affairs.
