French Architecture madness

allot french architects had greath plans
In particular it capital Paris
like move the Administrativ from Paris to new Capital at La Roche-Guyon
La Roche-Guyon the new Capital of France in 1960s
le corbusier had also big plans for Paris in 1922
his Idea to demolish the 6 Arrondissement and build
a megacity with 18 skyscrapers for 3 million people

Oh Le Corbusier, you so crazy.

(More seriously, while I have just as much an urge to rationalize through complete reorganization and rebuilding as anyone else, those ideas were stuuuupid. You're blowing up hundreds of years of architectural history for...what, exactly? Ugly giant buildings that will be ruins in a decade?)

there was even a more Insane proposal by a french architects around 1970 (i don't reall his name)
to abandon ALL City, towns, municipality, villages and move the entire French population
into 70 Superskyscrapers with each 1 million inhabitant
those 70 identical skycrapers are dispersed all over France in a grid
a grid based on France major Highway and trainline, so connects the skycrapers among each other...

Um... were they planing to slice of chunks of other countries to keep their grid perfect?

When did France get 70 million people?

Yeah, what is it about France that makes architects idiots... (as per Michel's mention of a superskyscraper plan earlier)
One would guess the same thing that made their Cars so quirky.

Also one thing not usually mentioned was his idea that a proletarian worker could live in a ~168 sqft apartment.

Surely it is obvious! Once France has completed the residental urban optimisation the population will experience strong, long term growth, via a combination of natural increase and increased immigration. Fertile people from around the world would flock to live in the Palaces of the Sky and raise strong families. The architects of course could see this glorious future and wished to plan accordingly

the grid remains inside france
look something like this (ignored the line outside france)
560px-France_TGV.png

with the 70 skycrapers atlong lines, within a traveltime of 10 minutes to each other.
(source: a french TV-Doku about french retro future at Cannal+)
i demand wat a disaster has to hit France, In order they have to build this system ?

When did France get 70 million people?
the population of France in 2010 is total 65,447,374 people

French architects have the spirit of French revolution, they want to change society.
for the good or the bad is for the occupant to decide...

back to architects favored victim Paris, particularly the business district "La Défense"
today fill with business skyscrapers and monument, had also other plans,

like The Tour Polak
proposed by A & J. Polak brothers in 1962 and planned durin 1964 to 1968
had to be a 725 meter (2378 ft.)high Tower.
for tourist with a restaurant in 600 meter high and for TV broadcasting in radius of 250 km (155 miles)
if build it had be tallest tower in the world. but sadly the communication satellites, technical and financial problems stopt the project.

The Tour Polak seems like it would have been a cool landmark and tourist attraction if it was built. Especially if it could have been lit up at night.
Then again Parisians might have objected to becoming the European Hong Kong.

Still, At least the guys doing stuff in the UAE aren't looking at Paris.

In the 60's, some politicians, especially former head of Governement Michel Debré and a part of the UDR (Gaullist) representatives, heavily supported vigourous natalist policies and hoped for 80 million people in France in 2000. Since the then-alimghty Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Transportation was dominated by engineers advocating massive investments in motorways, high speed railways, nuclear power and huge urban complexes, the two ideas got quite well together.

It's like an ugly version of the Space Needle or CN Tower. It could be cool, but that design just isn't. Pity, too.

that's tower design had several reasion
its Technical possibilities of 1960's
also was the orginal plan of "La Défense" were different.
the big plaza of today was plan as Highway tunnel exits on a greath boulevard, who continues along the Champs-Élysées
The Tour Polak Fundament had be ontop of to Highway tunnel, so Polak's use this 4 leg solution to spread the tower weight
later the plans change
Tour Polak was never build, instead of the highway tunnel came metrotunnel from the Champs-Élysées

but that din't stop the architects for other tower proposals
like Nicolas Schöffer 1970 "Tour Lumière Cybernétique" a 324 meter high steelframe constrution
sadly the Project was stop after its main advocate, the president Georges Pompidou died and financier back off.
in 1955 Schöffer proposed simelar tower but a 1 km (3280 ft.) high, as a vertical university
Home page about the Tower in french, With Videos were Schöffer explane the project
