What's the latest possible POD for keeping Algeria French? Before WWI? WWII
or could France had keep Algeria with an even later POD?

There was a post about this earlier last week, IIRC, but it's still my opinion that France could not have kept Algeria. Unless they significantly changed their colonial views and for the most part their views of Algeria as a whole, they could not have kept the country as is. A possibility would be a weak confederacy of sorts, with France offering a limp "guiding hand" to a newly independent Algeria, though.

I tend to disagree my opnion is that for every extra million French in Algeria (in 1962) they could keep it for a decade more, until we to the threshold where it's going to be a permantly part of France at around 40% of the population.

POD -- Fashoda goes Hot - Britain takes IndoChina, Madagascar, Following the war France puts more resources into North Africa.

I just agree with this statement. Let's suppose that Algeria became a friendly state of France in a way similar to Canada and Australia with Great Britain.
France could share a lot of thing with its ally such as natural ressources, aircraft industry (imagine a Dassault- Algerie similar to De Havilland Canada, sounds strange...) rocketry and nuclear technology (we tested both there until 1966)
Maybe this would help stabilising Algeria, avoiding decades of corruption, fanatism, man slaughters, islamism...

Of course you'll a peacefull transition bewteen 1930 and 1950.

To me an interesting POD could be a victorious 1940 campaign for France, thanks to the help of its empire. But after their sacrifice Algerian people would need a reward.
Let's say a "victory" narrow nough to sweep the 3rd republic and fund a more stable 4th republic. This republic would be more grateful to its north african soldiers and listen their will : independance...

This is more or less the scenario described in the alternate history "France fights on" in which France keeps figthing after july 1940... from northern africa!

I figure that handling this mess better is just about the last real chance to avoid a Northern Ireland situation at best. With enough troops and muscle they can make a desert and call it peace but at the cost of a lot of U.S./NATO support.
