Freedom-7 in October 1960: Nixon win?

What if the first suborbital manned flight of Mercury project was ready for October 1960?
If Alan Shepard's MR-3 had flown BEFORE the Presidential election of 1960,and had become the first man in space,
this would influence the elections, and how?

in OTL in 1960 there were Only 4 unmanned test
Mercury-Atlas 1 unmanned suborbital test, the booster explode 59 sec after lift off
Little Joe 5 a unmanned Launch Escape System test, First flight of a production Mercury spacecraft.
Mercury-Redstone 1 unmanned suborbital test, the most insane test in rocket history!

Mercury-Redstone 1A unmanned suborbital test,

If even Mercury-Redstone 1 was a sucess
Mercury-Redstone 2 (1A) Carried Ham the Chimpanzee on suborbital flight.

so how can we chance Mercury project ?
chance the Redstone by Jupiter missiles (wat was planed, but chanceld by due to budget constraints.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury-Jupiter
with Mercury-Jupiter as Biological suborbital test, Carried Chimpanzees and Monkeys on board
the Mercury-Redstone are Free for Astronauts
with unmanned Mercury-Redstone 1 a succes
first manned Mercury-Redstone 2 (1A) launch is in 19 december 1960

this is most early date for Astronaut flight in Mercury Program.

Perhaps if Tricky Dick hadn't kept looking at the clock during the debate, he would have beaten JFK anyway. Or if Mayor Daley hadn't had every single living person [and some who weren't] in Chicago vote.

there is Alternative to Project Mercury (1959-1963)

Man-In-Space-Soonest (MISS) in 1956 (project was cancelled in 1958 as NASA take responsibility for all Manned space Flight.).
http://www.astronautix.com/craftfam/manonest.htm
other source say MISS would have used a Thor booster, then later an Atlas, to put a capsule into orbit
The list consisted of USAF test pilots in 1957
Robert Walker, Scott Crossfield, Neil Armstrong, Robert Rushworth, William Bridgeman, Alvin White, Iven Kincheloe, Robert White, and Jack McKay.

Niel Armstrong first men in space ?

Adam
of US Army by Von Braun in 1958
http://www.astronautix.com/craft/adam.htm

those Programs had made a Fist human flight in october 1960
if they was taken instat Project Mercury.

.
In OTL,yes.
But if in ATL the Redstone rocket development was a bit more advanced,
if all test were a success
if the Shepard flight were in october 1960
in ATL

a big one
"Nixon USA launch first men in to space!"
he had win easy the Presidential elections with that

but not with OTL Mercury program
NASA take a year time bevor they start Mercury project in 1959.
after chancel of MISS, so they lost to much time
had NASA take MISS direct from 1958 they had a Launch Astronaut in october 1960
(NASA relabeld MISS to Mercury )
