I have always noticed that in most timelines, South Asia gets colonised by British, so a POD after 14th Century, is it possible for South Asia to remain independent to the age of colonialism

The Scenario should include -
  • Most if not all of South Asia united by a native power and being independent from complete colonization (Like Qing China)
The Scenario can include -
  • Most of South Asia having a single working language
  • Most of South Asia having a single religion

So basically the Mughal Empire gets wanked, and conquers just about all of the Indian subcontinent instead of just most of it? In any case, you need to make Britain and other European powers militarily weaker (or at least equal) in comparison to the Mughals, or at least make it so that subjugating all of India would be just as difficult as doing the same to China.

The British consistently lost against the Mughals until the latter were just a shadow of their former glory. Honestly an 18th century pod can prevent colonialism. Europeans were most emphatically not in any way the cause of Mughal decline, but if that can be prevented (shameless plug for my tl) you could very easily have a united subcontinent. I’d say the best way of ensuring there’s no technological disparity between Europe and India ever is if after Mughal collapse, regional successor states maintain independence better- ideally a prevention of Nader shah. As for language, I think Hindustani is the only real native option for a lingua Franca and religion... barring any cultural genocides the nicest way is increased syncretism leading to people treating Islam and the various Indian religions as different equally valid paths to the same goal- as indeed many people did think and was the even the majority view in different places at different times, though sadly not often enough.
