Frederick the Great WI

When Frederick's father blocked the marriage of his son, to an English Princess, (out of fears of upsetting Austria), Frederick fled Prussia with the assistance of a close friend. But the young Prince was captured by Prussian forces before he could escape. Jailed, and his friend "Hans Hermann von Katte" was executed for High Treason.

But what if Frederick had managed to get to England, and marry his intended bride. What kind of life would he have lived in exile in England? What would this mean for the future of England, Prussia, and Europe?

The match between Hannover and Prussia foundered because of Austrian meddling. Austria's ambassadors sowed seeds of discontent between the two states by urging one to push unreasonable demands and the other to refuse, since it suited the Habsburgs to have two of their princes at sixes-and-sevens so they pushed the niece of the empress for Fritz who commented on her "bonjour, Madame, et bon chance" and saw the poor ingenue as an Austrian spy resulting in his refusal to consummate the marriage, despite his dad giving them a silver bed with green velvet hangings as a wedding gift
