Franco dies 10 years earlier

What if Franco had died 10 years earlier, ie, in 1965? Would Spain have transitioned right after his death, as in our timeline, or would it have taken longer?

In the original timeline Franco before he died transferred power to the King, after Francos death the King then implemented democracy.

So it will depend on what year the King made his own internal mental decision that if he was given the power he would then give it to the people. And if he made the mental decision after 1965 then it will depend on what is the natural character of the King, if the decision was based on conclusions over the years, or on what he wanted to do in the year 1965 anyway.

The problem for the gradual democratization was the stronger presence of hardliner Francoists like Luís Carrero Blanco.

We should note, that, there is a conspiracy theory, that, Carrero Blanco's assassination was, actually, perpetrated by the USA or, at least, that, the ETA had USA support for the operation.
I'm not defending this conspiracy theory, please, don't ban me, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I just found it worth of mention, in the context.

If the King gets the power, like in the original timeline, and the King shares the same ideas that he did in the original timeline then it becomes more difficult for others to do anything because the King has the power, they would need to overcome the King.

To explain why I found it worth of mention, in the context, it's because some would argue that if Franco had died earlier, then, the USA would assassinate
or help assassinate Carrero Blanco earlier. Of course, all this is based on a dubious conspiracy theory but I found it worth of mention.

Could Spain have become a republic again after Franco?

I'v read that in our timeline, the public opinion in Spain was strongly in favour of a republic and Suárez's government was well aware of it but decided not to turn Spain into a republic or hold a referendum on the issue in order not to annoy the Francoist elements of the Armed Forces too much.

I do wonder how different modern Spain might be as republic.

BTW, it would be interesting to know what an earlier democratic Spain could mean for Equatorial Guinea's independence. In such a scenario, IMO, it's possible that Macias Nguema, who was pretty much Equatorial Guinea's Pol Pot, would never rise to power. What do you think?
