Your the UK Ambassador and your at the Congress of Vienna 1815.

Nappy has just been beaten (again) and you can dictate terms.

----

Could you somehow force a unification of the French Imperial Throne with King George III's?

Or possibly put a UK monarch on said throne instead of the Bourbons?

Or some other form of unification entirely?

If possible, what are the effects?

This could be possible, but no much.

It would be necessary to convince the Holy Alliance to make a join protection by some years because would be a error make a invasion of few troops on a battle with a French revolutionaries.

With absolute certainty during the first 10 or 20 years we would have French fighting to haven't independence and would feel humiliated by losing their own country.

Not very possible, but possible. France was reluctant to have the Bourbons and the politicans looked favorably upon the British, so there is a chance but not much.

Doesn't make sense given that the ostensible purpose of the wars was to restore the Bourbons to their "rightful" throne in France - especially the Seventh Coalition, which specifically named Napoleon as its enemy and not France.

The rest of the Coalition wouldn't go for it in any event.

No chance. The rest of Europe would not stand for the unification of the two greatest powers in Europe, nor would the French people be prepared to accept a monarch of their greatest enemy on their throne.

Possible if you are the best Politian the world has ever seen .Or you manage to get normal Frenchmen to go for the idea .As well as your Gov back home .I could totally see Queen Victoria spending her final years in the Riveria .

Pure ASB.

And the UK absolutely could not dictate the terms of Vienna. It was just one of the winning powers. Russia and Austria each had as much influence as the UK.

What if George III (one of the worst kings of England) did not abandon the right to the French throne dating to Edward III in 1337 in the Conference of Lille in 1797. Would this make any difference? Or at least put the opportunity on the cards?

Regards

George III was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of the two countries on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. He was never King of England.

It doesn't matter how strong a claim they have to the Kingdom, Russia isn't going to let France fall entirely into the UK's hands.

So it would have been on the cards then... but Russia and other powers would have stopped it because of legitimate reasons..................................................................................................................................

George III one of the worse British kings? Where's that coming from?

Anyways it would have made a slight difference but the issue with a Franco British Union is beyond something as slight as that.

Oh sorry, just my boiling anger and personal dig at the useless little prick in terms of how he conducted himself as king. That is sadly mostly down to him being insane.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated... It seems like Henry V had the best chance then.

He had no right. He just had a claim, which he claimed to be a right.

And nobody would anyway ever accept that the king of Great Britain and Iteland ever becomes also king of France.

Not the french people. Not the french ruling elite (how about Wilhelm II becoming king of France in 1871 or Hitler president of the french republic in 1940 ???).

Nor any other european great power who would then all form an anti british coalition and realize with the french the continental blockade that Napoleon was unable to enforced successfully.

And the british government was all but a bunch of unconscious idiots.
