Francis I Aligns with the Protestants

At first, Francis I of France was quite supportive of the Protestant League, hopeing to use them to battle against Charles V the Holy Roman Emperor, even Sulemain the Magnificent tried to convince Francis of their political usefulness to battle the Hapsburgs. Though eventually after a notorious printing incident he saw the Protestants as plotting against him and reigned on his allegiance and stayed out of fighting that erupted in the 1530s and saw the crushing of the Protestants and defeat of the Ottomans.

What if Francis had continued his support and even militarily joined in against the Hapsburgs alongside the Protestants?

Highly unlikely to say the least; even at their height Protestants were never a majority of the faith. Plus, Francis I already had an iron fist over the French Catholic Church seeing as he basically controlled who could be candidates for various positions in the French Church. Plus he also controlled the money that went from France to Rome, plus that little place called Avignon :p

But had Francis I joined in the war against the Habsburgs, he'd have had his arse kicked even more than he did in OTL against the Habsburgs. If there was one thing that Charles hated even more than the Ottomans, it was heretics.

Avoiding the Affair of the Placards could likely make France align itself with the Protestants further. I can't see Francis I himself converting though.

Depends. I don't see the Pope becoming too friendly with him if say Francis I manages to win the Italian Wars.
