That's not even the main point.

You have also the fact that the colonies functioned in a far more "democratic" way than Britain.

They had benefited from a century and a half of benign or forced neglegt from Britain (because of wars, révolution and threats in Europe and elsewhere). And when, after the FAIW, Britain was victorious in such a way that it could strengthen its effective control of the colonies, it drove to the crisis.

I would say that the settlers of the american colonies did not want to be ruled by the british ruling elite the way this ruling british elite ruled the common englishmen, the scots and the irish.
