France Puts Down the Tunisian Revolution

Sarkozy considered sending troops to help Ben Ali end the unrest. If he did this, how would subsequent events in the Middle East play out?
 
A democratic Western European democracy and one of the foremost members of the EU sending troops to put down peaceful democratic rebels on behalf of an authoritarian government.

It ends about as well as it sounds.
 

No he didn't.

Michèle-Alliot-Marie, then Minister for Foreign Affairs, suggested during a National Assembly session that France could send police advisers to Tunisia to show Ben Ali's forces how to suppress the revolution without blood.

This caused such an uproar that Michèle-Aliot-Marie (who had private intersets with people close to ben Ali's regime, BTW) finally resigned.
