France keeps the Netherlands at Aix-la-Chapelle

Does France also keep Madras? I've understood that the exchange was Madras for Louisbourg, and France gave up the Austrian Netherlands in exchange for Austria leaving Italy.

How does that work? Austria was willing to give up the Netherlands (Britain and the Dutch were AIUI, the only ones who DIDN'T want that)

What if France had kept the Spanish Netherlands at Aix-la-Chapelle and the British in return kept Louisbourg?

There is zero chance France was going to keep all of the Spanish Netherlands, such an enormous gain would never have been tolerated by anyone or asked for by France. The question was whether they would take a slice along the border including some border fortresses. That was a real possibility and would be a major roadblock to the diplomatic revolution and the post war Franco-Austrian alliance. The implications of that on the Seven Years War are massive.

I don't know their reasoning, but in the treaty they gave up Modena, Parma and Genoa and got back the Southern Netherlands.
