France breaks up during the Revolution

Surrounding powers step in to exploit the situation and grab some pieces of territory from the undefended enemy that is France, which will eventually cause the splintered factions in the country to reunite and possibly start a 'reconquista'.

France reunifies after a fairly short time. French identity is too ingrained in Frenchmen for it to be split up for long.

The only things I can see is other countries nabbing bits and pieces they want. Like Spain grabs the French Pyrennes, Corsica is liberated and falls under someone's influence, etc. Also maybe the Royalists retain part of the nation

No nation in the 19th Century will just "step in" and "grab some pieces of territory" for fear that any nation could do that to them. Like the Congress of Vienna proves, 18th century leaders like status quo in Europe.

This is the most likely thing to happen, with some one either claiming the throne or setting them selves up as the new president.

Like i said above this wont happen but what if the Spanish form a treaty with the Kingdom of Pyrennes as its vassal.
Britain would support Brittany and its gained nothern lines.
Eastern France will be intergrated into the German Confederation as its own Electoral state.
The south Eastern region will be supported by an Italian Kingdom.
While Centeral and Western france keeps its identity as the true French Nation.

Things like these happened all the time, and especially so in the 19th century. Believing this was something unusual or even impossible is fairly short-sighted and naive.

Int he event the king survives/escapes you could see a French Civil War but he'd probably lose, and I think, as noted, the national identity is too ingrained. Most that could happen is Savoy maybe breaking off - I think they were part of France by then.

I mean, even taking someplace like Navarre, the crowns had been one and the same for well over a century. (Though it would be interesting to see him try to claim Navarre for himself if the Radicals are too powerful in Paris, and then try to build up some strength there.)

But the issue is that the rest of Europe was fighting to restore the Bourbons to the throne. Restoring them to the throne of a greatly reduced France is not a way to make them respectable in the eyes of their subjects. That was a big reason why France got off relatively lightly in OTL.
