Fort Sumter

So I know as well as anyone that after the south seceded war was an inevitability, it was only a matter of time before guns opened up. If the south hadn't fired on Fort Sumter, is there any way the war could've been put off to allow for a better prepared Confederacy? Also what possible ramifications could a more prepared Confederacy have?

At the time everyone was convinced of the six week war concept. And the southern fire-eaters were just too raring for a brawl. Lincoln would have had to evacuate Ft. Sumter, which would make zero sense considering his goals. Davis was simply out maneuvered by Lincoln. It would only be the first in a long series of such miscalculations for Davis (regarding Lincoln) through the rest of the ACW.
