Ford 1980, Who in 1984?

Let's say Reagan beats Ford in 1976 for the nomination, loses, and then Ford comes back in 1980 and wins the Presidency.

Who succeeds Ford in 1984?

I would think we would see many of the same names and faces we saw in 88 on the Republican side. Dole, Kemp, George H.W. Bush, etc. It would also depend on who was VP for Ford on the 1980 ticket. If he brought Bob Dole back with him, then he would have a similar advantage as Bush had in 88.

Probably George H.W. Bush. The sudden stoppage of inflation and stable fuel prices will guarantee a victory for the incumbent party.

Depends who he chooses as his running mate. My bet? Texas Governor Bill Clements, a big Ford supporter (to the point of trying to convince him to run in 1980) and someone likely to help Republican chances in Texas, where, against Carter, Ford would probably be weak. Plus it helps that the Reaganites likely wouldn't have a problem with him.
