For Want of A Sandwich - A Franz Ferdinand Lives Wikibox TL

I assume this meant the likes of Thorez and co most likely ended up purged in 1938. And with the CoF's upcoming Kaiserreich rework, what became of Jean Zyromski with how in said rework he'll be the CoF's starting leader? I assume he got purged by the Sorelians, but still, what he did pre-purge is still something that I'd like to know.

How did these countries develop their space programs? I get the others, but still, those five countries having space programs is a surprise to me.

And any details on the state of the Azanian Navy and Air Force, aside from "poor"?

What was the start of said war like and what was Azania's "high-water mark" in this timeline, especially when it came to their advances?

I assume the Irish government screwed up handling Ulster Unionism, badly, which is why the military took power?
-Zyromski is a very interesting and seminal figure, but he got purged by the Sorelians.
-Thanks to advances in technology, space travel is more affordable and it concerns countries capable of maintaining their own launch and satellites, not such as manned missions.
-They've got none.
-The conquest of Mozambique and the overtaking of OTL Zimbabwe, around 2015.
-It's the case. And it was messy.
Cool stuff. I’m happy for all of them here, Tong probably wouldn’t care about what his native China thinks of him with him having helped bring positive changes elsewhere in the world here, it’s a shame that Milk passed away from AIDS here, and I’m glad that LGBT rights are somewhat more advanced here than in our own timeline.

Some more people to ask about:
- Fred Hampton
- Kurt Cobain
- Angela Davis
- Yuri Kochiyama
- Robin Williams
-Fred Hampton had a fruitful career in the United States.
-Kurt is still alive.
-Angela Davis' ancestors emigrated to Liberia and she was President of the country.
-Still a progressive activist, but without the Japanese American internment, she's less noticeable.
-Robin Williams died of an overdose in the 1980s.
So does the other side have air supremacy then? I assume that would be the thing to strive for. Any air support form Germany or the UK? On nuclear, any intention to drop one on ex-Durban from outside? I don't believe there could be any retaliation unless another major power can come to their defense. What is the stance of Liberia or other neo-kemitist states? Any Tanks/artillery from places like China?

Seconded.

That is a huge part of it on open desert and plains. Must be hell to man it all the way,

Seems a bit unsustainable but understandable. Who would really want to deal with Azania's population afterwards (revolts, guerillas, etc.)? They should at least try to move to more easily defendable position.

You mean impossible for both sides?

How did they escape? Did they flee as soon as the civil war started? Anything from other traditional rulers of the region (like the Zulu King)?

Seconded.
-Nuclear weapons are taboo since the 1980s and using one would send shockwaves throughout the planet. Liberia are accepting of Azania but neutral, considering them too extremist, and China provides artillery.
Swaziland and Lesotho were invaded by South Africa in the 1960s and integrated as Bantustans so they had time to prepare their exile.
This is one of my favourite timelines in terms of its scope and the way the entire world has seemed to change.

I've pondered the state of one of my other major interests (professional wrestling) and I've come to the realisation that in this timeline, the pro wrestling scene in Japan is completely butterflied. With a Korea that was most recently colonised by Russia and not Japan, a certain sumo recruiter never goes to Korea and finds Kim Sin-Rak, a.k.a. Rikidozan, the man who made "puroresu" popular in Japan. So that's out of the window.

Would have to look deeper into the histories of the locations of other major OTL wrestling scenes and see what happens to them.
Thank you for the compliment. I'm not knowledgeable at all about professionnal wrestling, I should look into it.
Any celebrities who died earlier than OTL either due to accidents, sudden illness, or murder that would be interesting to talk about?
I can think of Robin Williams, but also Dennis Hopper. I like to play with butterflies so, for example, Bruce Lee died this August.
There is this thread that could be used as a frame of reference.

Small question. Since the CWR used Esperanto as its official language, that has no doubt killed interest in it as an international language. My question is, has this had a knock-on effect of killing the idea of international language creation, or indeed conlanging in general? Or have people tried harder to create an international language to supplant Esperanto and "sanitise" the concept?
International languages are dead and considered anarchist rabble. It is one of the utopias that disappeared.
On Wallonia and Hungary, OTL Sixtus and Xavier of Bourbon Parma saw themselves as French enough to go against the Central Powers as soon as France declared war on Vienna (even if they were originally planning on enlisting in the Austrian Army to avenge Franz Ferdinand), enlisting on the Belgian Army since the French forbade them by law to fight in their army (absolute lol). What makes them stay with Austria all the way ITTL and never consider enlisting on the other side?

Assuming they try to enlist on France still and get rejected, Since there seems to be no Belgium in the early months, they would be out of the war (yay for them) but I seriously doubt that Sixtus would be accepted by the Germans as King of Wallonia if he puts a stunt like that. Xavier, maybe if Hungary wants to dunk on the Habsburgs but i would not expect a warm Germany in that case so they must stay Austrian which goes back to the original question.

Also, OTL Xavier became the carlist pretender (or regent) which i assume would not happen if he is ruling Hungary, so who carries the torch in that case?
Sixtus and Xavier were still rejected by the French, Belgium remained neutral and they enlisted, by pure duty towards their family, in the Austro-Hungarian army. They were accepted by Germany, being brother to the wife of the Austrian heir and not willing to advantage Bavaria or Wurttemberg by having Catholic monarchs, their Francophilia also helped. Xavier being a traditionalist, he was also more suitable to the Hungarians.
Archduke Karl Pius became the Carlist pretender instead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Karl_Pius_of_Austria,_Prince_of_Tuscany). The Carlist line of succession is a total mess ITTL.

-Fred Hampton had a fruitful career in the United States.

Nice stuff!

-Angela Davis' ancestors emigrated to Liberia and she was President of the country.
Cool stuff, what was she was like as President?

That’s one positive at least.

-Robin Williams died of an overdose in the 1980s.
Oh Jesus Christ, RIP Robin.

International languages are dead and considered anarchist rabble. It is one of the utopias that disappeared.
To be very honest with y’all, I would rather speak my native language of English rather than an international language like Esperanto, so this isn’t too bad of a thing IMO.

To go all out can I ask what happened to all of these notable members of the animation industry ITTL? Hopefully ten is not too much to ask for.

- Osamu Tezuka
- Ralph Bakshi
- Hiyao Miyazaki
- Matt Groening
- Genndy Tartakovsky
- Seth McFarlane
- Craig McCracken
- Lauren Faust
- Matt Braly
- Dana Terrace

Bhutan

...As Bhutan remained a British protectorate and a member of the Commonwealth after the dissolution of the Raj, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck embarked the country on a course of modernization, establishing a Parliament in 1953 ; yet, the Dragon King was assassinated in a military plot in 1965, leading the Parliament to declare Bhutan a Republic, with Lhendup Dorji as its first President. The country quit the Commonwealth and entered the Pan-Asian Sphere of Co-Prosperity.

In 1974, General Dhendhup Tshering established himself as military dictator of Bhutan ; persecution of Nepalese immigrants and the crumbling of both India and Japan led Nepal to invade Bhutan and establish a puppet state there in 1988, ultimately leading to the annexation of the three-centuries-old kingdom by 1992, ending its existence.

Angela Davis ruled from 2006 to 2012 and had a rocky road, managing to preserve the statu quo between radicals and moderates.
-Tezuka had a fruitful career but the isolation of Japan led to his works being discovered later in the West.
-Ralph Bakshi managed to have a much more succesful career thanks to the decline of Disney.
-Hayao Miyazaki also remains an uncontested master in animation, also discovered late out of Asia but having a seminal following in animation worldwide.
-Matt Groening was able to begin in animation thanks to an adaptation of Life in Hell and pursued various projects. The Simpsons were butterfield away.
-Genndy Tartakovsky contributes to the rise of Russian animation.
-Seth McFarlane is more succesful as producer and actor of live-action than as animator.
-Craig McCracken is much more influenced by Asian animation and made careers in China, as is Lauren Faust. Matt Braly also works in China.
-Dana Terrace ias also a rising figure, in the United States.

Hell yeah! Thank you for answering all of this! I particularly have a special liking for Braly and Terrace, is there anything specific about them or their work ITTL? Or is it just that for now?

Also, what is Orson Welles’ career like ITTL due to him not being able to make Citizen Kane ITTL? What was his adaptation Heart of Darkness like?

How much was his animation affected by Japan being a right-wing dictatorship until the 1980s ITTL?
International languages are dead and considered anarchist rabble. It is one of the utopias that disappeared.
Any other such "utopias that disappeared" ITTL, on that note?
-They've got none.
I'd imagine they'd at least have a reasonably-sized air force if they are able to push back forces of the major powers, but still. And speaking of which, what tank has the same "reputation" as the T-54/55 as the most-produced tank ITTL?

I will think about their careers.
Orson Welles dabbled for a time in Progressive politics and was as a whole more able to get his projects funded, such as Don Quixote. His Heart of Darkness can be already seen thanks to found footage IOTL ; it's still there, with as many versions as you can get due to Welles returning on his earlier projects, and it's a seminal work of cinema, with no one daring to make a remake.

Animation was quite under censorship, prompting a rush in artistry in the late 1980s and more incredible projects : as such, Satoshi Kon is a household name.
Communism comes to mind, and also Zionism.
I don't know about its name, but I imagine it would be German.

I'm curious about Sophia of Greece and LondonDenmark, who is apparently the Swedish queen mother - the latter half of her title seems surprising, both in orthography and geography.

I think that London is mistake.

And prince/princess of Greece and Denmark was real title used by Greek royals in OTL.

That’s cool! He deserves it too. Is Satoshi still alive or did he still unexpectedly pass away in 2010?

So will be there future war between Malaya and Thailand in the future? Also do you plan on expanding Malaya and other Malay Peninsular states?
