For want of a cab (or 600)

Its the First Marne, and Joffre is looking for cabs for 6,000 French soldiers. He finds them, they rush to the field and save the day, or at least a crucial part of the day at a crucial place.

But, Joffre can't find any cabs this time around. What does he do? What do the Germans do? And who wins the war?

You tell me.

I'm by no means an expert but wasn't Paris next? So the Germans have to do urban fighting against a prepared enemy who know the area, or?

IIRC, although hyped up, Gallieni's use of the vehicles wasn't that vital. But I confess I'm not too well read-up on the particular incident.

You're correct that it wasn't vital tactically. But its the hype that made it vital; its a rather large contribution to morale when the reserves come rolling in on taxis.
