For the Want of a Ram: The World of a Surviving Caesar

Hey everyone! So with this next chapter, I’ve been super busy atm, though my hope is to get started on it this weekend and have it done sometime next week. It’ll be the last one on the Dacian War before we finally move on to greener pastures. Also, can anyone on here make a map? I wanted to make one to bookend this portion of the TL and put all the place names into context. If anyone volunteers, I’d be happy to send you the details

I'm not the world's best map maker, but I can try my hand at it if nobody better volunteers.

Would be happy too! Just DM me the specifics.

Just finished reading this, and it's honestly a really thrilling look at what might've been Caesar's Dacian campaign. I especially like the almost mythic events of the comets, battles, and intrigue, as well as seeing figures like Cleopatra and Octavian. I hope after the end of the campaign, we get to see how Caesar continues his reign, and how the conspirators react to all this.

Hey everyone, so it’s me again, back to the land of the living. I just wanted to say that, after a month-long hiatus, the next chapter is finally coming, and it should drop sometime this week. October just proved to be way more hectic than I thought, and the plan is to return to a weekly update schedule now that I actually have some free time

Hey everyone! So I'm back and I just wanted to update everyone on the status of the TL going forward. It's not dead; I just needed to take a hiatus due various happenings in my personal life. Apologies for not getting that chapter out like I promised and being a bit late with the announcement. Currently, my plan however is to restart this thing around late December and hopefully keep it going from there. Roma Invicta!

Zyraxes ... help[ed] Burebista ... wage a genocidal war against the Bastarnae, wiping their villages off the map. When the dust had settled, these peoples would never forget what Zyraxes did to them.

Caesar would send an envoy to the Bastarnae, hoping to negotiate, only to be met back with a head in a box. They were in no mood for peace; the time for war had come. Cursing at the heavens, Caesar would march on their capital... The bulk of his legions would march west to siege down Zyraxes’s main forts...
I'm confused. Caesar is at war with Dacia, and Zyraxes is a vassal of Burebista of Dacia. Zyraxes and Burebista oppressed the Bastarnae. So why are the Bastarnae so hostile to Caesar, the enemy of their oppressors, that he has to fight and destroy them? And why must he do that? Can't he just leave them alone?
