Meanwhile, I wonder what happened to the Republicans.A POTUS with a good record - and a NASA veteran at that - who publicly came out, and a Republican? I imagine so.
AND North Korea.

I look forward to seeing how Lee Jung-Gil is doing now. I kindly hope my headcanon of him (became a hero in North Korea after his return with good benefits for him and his family in exchange for his “silence” on the fact he was abandoned and is now a veteran cosmonaut on the Mars settlement/s) will become true.As sad as that is to see that Ellen's character will be reduced in the next season I can easily imagine why they're minimizing her (and i'm sure others' role). It's hard to continue to up-age everyone and as said she's now an ex-president. Her role/power/influence in NASA and politics writ large is diminished with her eventually leaving.
It was always going to be the biggest thing with this show jumping ~ a decade every season- time and events push what were main characters into smaller roles and we'll get new characters that we'll learn to love (or hate).
Was he abandoned though? He was unable to contact home and tell them he was still alive. North Korea had every reason to believe he was dead; not to mention they had no ability to help him in any way. He probably knew it would be a one way trip and he almost certainly had volunteered.I look forward to seeing how Lee Jung-Gil is doing now. Considering he had a gun even as he tried to contact back to Earth, I believe they planned for it to be a one-way trip but didn't tell him (maybe his companion was the one in the know?)Was he abandoned though? But yes, he is now the true (North) Korean hero, the first man to step on Mars. As long as he toes the party line he and his family will be showered with various benefits. His success in an enormous propaganda boost for the NK and he will probably get his own monument - probably a figure of him listening to the last instructions from the Glorious Leader. To be fair, he deserves it.
I wonder how other countries reacted to North Korea being first on Mars. South Korea would have very mixed feelings ("he is a commie, but still Korean"). But I think that many states might love the idea of a small, poor country breaking US/Soviet domination in space. Everybody cheers for the underdog.

I have a headcanon that, when he returned to Earth, he brought back a North Korean flag who was on Mars (or supposed so) to give it to the Great Leader to “prove” their victory in a great propaganda shot. Plus, giving him and his family a life of luxury and celebrity is quite a well-deserved reward for all it went through: I do picture a statue of him, only maybe portraying him in cosmonaut suit alongside a woman and a child (maybe modeled after is wife and daughter, if they have one) looking forward to the “Great Glorious Future” the leader (a little behind, showing them the way with a kind smile) is leading them to.
I'd like to see the desire of “being part” of others success may contribute to the reestablish of warmer relations between North and South Korea, or for development of a South Korea Space Agency (“if those poor, ignorant commies managed to beat USA and URSS to Mars with Soviet Leftovers, why can't we with our money and advanced tech do better?”)
Also, North Korea success might inspire many other nations to participate into the Space Race as well, either as a way to gain prestige or in hope to be able to beat USA and URSS as well. Among them, I'd be interested if European Nations manage to pull off a more successful ESA (they are already seen cooperating with NASA); also, other nations like India, South Africa, Australia, and many others could be incentived to join.
Considering the Soviets are still around, and probably that means there is still two Germanies, could mean the ESA is outfitted with G11's....Gonna Imagine the South Korean Lunar Forces had Daewoo Precision Industries K2 Assault Rifles ESA would had different Guns on Each Space Forces like British Special Lunar Services and Lunar Royal Marines as examples.

i hope they had a emblem of the Japanese Space Defense Force on their spacesuit. And Japan would have some space variant of the Howa Type 89 rifle and possibly the Minebea M9 Submachine Gun.

I got amazed how the M16s and AKs got modified to work in space. This show never fails to amaze me.And Japan would have some space variant of the Howa Type 89 rifle and possibly the Minebea M9 Submachine Gun.
So in this universe, it's like those 1970s-80s anime of Japanese mechas reaching the stars.i hope they had a emblem of the Japanese Space Defense Force on their spacesuit.
what next gonna joke someones playing moonlight densetsu on a moon baseI got amazed how the M16s and AKs got modified to work in space. This show never fails to amaze me.

But West German Space Force been part of ESA they had G11 while the East German Space Force had Wieger StG-940 if they had a different Space Suit Colors to distinguished.Considering the Soviets are still around, and probably that means there is still two Germanies, could mean the ESA is outfitted with G11's....
And now I have flashbacks of Season 2, of how this led to US Marines shooting someone believing he was armed (an action resembling another common one from RL) and the Russian storming Jamestown with AK-47 (the best automatic gun, especially compared to M16) event that almost led to a nuclear meltdown and WW3.Gonna Imagine the South Korean Lunar Forces had Daewoo Precision Industries K2 Assault Rifles ESA would had different Guns on Each Space Forces like British Special Lunar Services and Lunar Royal Marines as examples.
Or better spacesuits, developed for space-exclusive warfare.By the 2000s (in the FAM timeline) i suspect we might be seeing some dedicated firearms for space usage by now. Weapons that can incapacitate an enemy without leaving a hole in your pressurised environment would seem to be very useful.
