I don't know how practical this would be hence the post!
But in WW2 there was the problem of the 'Atlantic gap' a space in the Atlantic ocean that could not be covered by any air patrols - until the advent of escort carriers.
Would it be feasible to have a vessel that at certain positions would act as a rendevous point for flying boats in order for them to refuel and rearm?
In operational terms, there may be problems with predicting the sea state, and how that could prevent refueling in mid-ocean, but I wonder?
Thoughts anyone?
