Flying Boat Tenders

I don't know how practical this would be hence the post!

But in WW2 there was the problem of the 'Atlantic gap' a space in the Atlantic ocean that could not be covered by any air patrols - until the advent of escort carriers.

Would it be feasible to have a vessel that at certain positions would act as a rendevous point for flying boats in order for them to refuel and rearm?

In operational terms, there may be problems with predicting the sea state, and how that could prevent refueling in mid-ocean, but I wonder?

Thoughts anyone?

The problem is going to be that flying boats can't operate from open water; they need relatively smooth water to take off and land on. That's why they tended to operate from harbors and other sheltered areas. In WW2 some flying boats did try to land on open water but mostly they damaged their hulls and either sank or had to wait until their crews were rescued and then sank. There are a few cases of flying boats landing in the open sea (usually to pick up survivors) and not being wrecked but they are exceptions.
