A republican flag for Liechtenstein in a world where the 2003 Constitution Peace Initiative referendum wins, Prince Hans-Adam II and the royal family leave the country for Vienna and Liechtenstein becomes a republic, thus ending the reign of the last German-speaking monarchy. 🇱🇮
For a moment I wondered why there was a Smurfs flag here before realizing it's supposed to be a Phrygian hat.

Royal Standard of the Restored United Kingdom in my kinda-sorta WIP project. Which may eventually get a proper graphic tl with a thread of its own eventually, if I feel confident enough in general and on the whole thing itself in specific, or have enough interesting stuff to post in the graphic tl format. But I feel like I would either need to learn making wikiboxes or find an alternative method (yeah, I might eventually decide on having an alternate site in place of wikipedia and then use paint to make the infoboxes).

This is the best alternate term for a Cold War analogue I've ever read. I'm actually disappointed it's not the official OTL term.
Thankfully it won't end in the much-feared "storm" of apocalyptic nuclear war. I figured since I was using "the Cold Wars" to refer to the World War analogues it would make sense.

Got distracted with work stuff but I've got the first few flags done for my A Lighter Shade of Black Tsalal flag series, I'll probably start putting it up after work tomorrow.

A Lighter Shade of Black- The First Cold War
Tsalal*

Since the discovery of Antarctica in 1774 during the doomed Second Cook Expedition, the indigenous inhabitants of that blighted land have filled the nightmares of the Old World with horrors. Rather than delve into the fanciful and wild-eyed stereotyping typical of discussions of the Tsalal we will instead concern ourselves with the facts. Antarctica was initially settled by a founding population of Tasmanians, brought south in a series of small waves by a succession of storms roughly 20,000 years ago. This initial population would be gradually bolstered by successive influxes of Yaghan and Maori, who would quickly find themselves subsumed into the dominant culture that had preceded them.

A series of mutations and adaptations would produce the Tsalal as they currently exist, with an extreme tolerance for variation in the sleep cycle, a greater than average endurance and resistance to famine, highly developed night vision (with a corresponding commonality of red-green colorblindness), and an ability to digest the incredibly starchy and alkaline staple crops of the continent at the expense of an almost complete intolerance to gluten. Although phenotyped as black, the presence of ice binding proteins in their tissues actually gives the Tsalal a somewhat grayish cast to their skin, a trait best observed in their unusually dark sclera, while their famed black teeth are actually a result of staining from the vegetable portion of the Tsalal diet. Tsalal hair is coarse and most commonly black, though it is rarely blonde or red. The most common body type is stout (to better retain heat during the polar winter), while faces tend to be long and thin, with noticeable mandibular prognathism. The relatively small founding population has led to a common continental blood type, creating a society where tissue rejection is almost unheard of.

The history of Antarctic civilization tends to revolve around the push and pull between the Yag centered around Paant'n Lul and the Tcho heartland in Tsalmothua. The former boasts the longest republican tradition in human history, having maintained a cultural continuity that stretches from before the the unification of the highland and lowland Yag to the expansion into Azul and Ptahr and on to the present day. The latter expanded during the Coal Age, creating a succession of empires and corprocracies centered around the famed Sunken Cities that have expanded and receded ever since. The other major Antarctic nations have seen themselves shaped irrevocably by the conflict between the two core regions of the continent. For example, Yag suppression of the barbarian Ptahr was a deciding factor that enabled the Leng peoples to dominate the Wang Gash region, while the Hali culture caught between the three preserved itself by cultivating a well-earned reputation as the most skilled experts in medicine, torture, and armaments on the continent.

Even the outlying Antarctic civilizations would find themselves broken against the twin pillars of Yag and Tsalmothua. Although the Zhudan enjoyed a brief period of supremacy as a naval thalassocracy, the eventual collapse of their imperial project would see them transform into the matriarchal Ghault culture still centered around Zhudan Lul. The Dragon Islanders would briefly invade the mainland, penetrating almost to Lake Vos, and after being turned back would transition from a loosely connected horde to a proper confederation. The Cold Islands were settled much later than the rest of the continent by a series of competing settler colonial projects, with the harsh social and environmental conditions breeding the equally harsh and utilitarian Crystal Islander culture that would ironically inspire as much fear in the Tsalal as they themselves would go on to inspire in the rest of the world.

Much hay has been made in the wider world by the worrying propensity for incest, cannibalism, coprophagia and other obscenities in the Tsalal cultural record, but these traits are best understood as desperate survival mechanisms that thankfully became obsolete as agriculture and architecture transformed the continent and made the horrors of the Antarctic winter more bearable. This is best seen in the Tsalal from the late 19th century on— despite the survival of the institution of slavery, in the modern Antarctica incest and pedophilia are outlawed, cannibalism is thankfully rare (and absent altogether in Yag), genocides are unheard of, and even the Hali's famed love of recreational torture has given way to the mere practice of cruel and unusual punishment. Rumors persist that the Crystal Islanders continue to hew closer to the old ways in these matters, but absent concrete evidence we cannot credit those allegations.

Ancestry: Tasmanian, Yaghan, Maori

*For a series in the Flag Thread I'm planning for a tweaked Green Antarctica called A Lighter Shade of Black!

**The classification of Yhriqism as a religion is disputed.

I'm working out ideas for a series in the Flag Thread called A Lighter Shade of Black that'll be a take on the 20th century of Green Antarctica! Aside from making some tweaks to the early stages of the TL to moderate some of the later horrors it'll mainly be an exercise in eliminating some of the unlikely modern parallelism, exploring my love of divergent political systems, going into detail about the Tsalal in America, and will culminate in an offramp to sanity at the end of the Cold War analogue! Based on the precedent that Arthur Gordon Pym was a historical person in-universe I thought it would be funny to make the list (with one exception) entirely out of characters or descendants of characters from related media 😂
  • Edgar Pym (Federalist, 1897-1905)[1]- Descendant of polar explorer A.G. Pym, shipping magnate.
  • Howard Lake (1905-09)[2]- President of Miskatonic University.
  • Julian Jeorling (American, 1909-17)[3]- Namesake descendant of Kerguelen naturalist J. Jeorling, Governor of Wisconsin.
  • Beekman Winthrop (1917-25)[4]- Governor of Jamaica.
  • Louis Castaigne (1925-33)[5]- Army officer.
  • Carl Denham (1933-49)[6]- Film producer.
  • Pat Hendry (1949-53)[7]- Air Force officer.
  • Hannibal Castaigne (1953-69)[5]- Nephew of L. Castaigne, Army officer.
  • Wilford Blair (1969-77)[8]- Aerospace engineer.
  • Hadrian Castaigne (1977-85)[5]- Son of H. Castaigne, financier.
  • R.J. MacReady (1985-93)[8]- Special Forces operative.
  • Holt Castaigne (1993- 2001)[5]- Son of H. Castaigne, actor.
  • Shane Schofield (2001-09)[9]- Special Forces operative.
  • Sonia Danforth (2009-2017)[2]- Secretary of State.
  • Louise Lovegrove (2017-25)[10]- Senator of Rhode Island, first Tsalal-American president, AH twin of my own Emily Lovecraft.

Here's a Fourth Party System for a short ASB project I'm working on!

Since the events in Antarctica would begin producing butterflies in the early years of the 19th century, it stands to reason that the American political system would be affected given that the period was the crucible that birthed the concept of organized political parties in the US. Let me know if you have any questions!

Extant parties:
  • The Federalist Party considers itself the natural governing party of the United States, and is the oldest political party in the world. Originally the party of a strong central government and the Hamiltonian system of tariffs and internal improvements, opposition to the War of 1812 and to the failed attempt to invoke the Monroe Doctrine in the wake of the 1816 Tsalal incursion of Patagonia would see the party expand its holdings. The Federalists would take a strong stand against slavery, but the further expansion of the Tsalal and the party's own protectionism and opposition to bimetallism in the wake of the Civil War would lose them ground to the American Party. In the wake of the War of Civilizations, the Federalists in the Fourth Party System have pivoted hard to a bellicose policy of containment aimed at both the Tsalal and the European Sorelians, though this opposition has actually eroded the party's commitment to civil rights given the high proportion of black citizens with Tsalal ancestry that have faced lingering discrimination through the 20th century.
    • Electoral symbol- black/white/black roundel.
    • Electoral color- black
  • The American Party is seen as something of an upstart, having begun in the North as a populist republican party in the lead up to the Civil War. Founded on a deep opposition to immigration from essentially everywhere that wasn't Britain and alleging a vast conspiracy masterminded by the Tsalal to undermine the country, the party underwent a serious split over the issue of slavery, with the Northern faction eventually absorbed by the Federalists and the Southern faction successfully absorbing the Nullifiers. Opposed to Federalist tariffs and coming to adopt the policies of bimetallism, this new Southern form of the Americans initially downplayed* the idea of the Tsalal conspiracy, though in the Fourth Party System that has all come roaring back, only receding in the wake of a backlash against the authoritarian overreach of the Castaignes. Since the Denham administration the party has focused on electing populist candidates with strong credentials in national defence to create a contrast with the perceived elitism of the Federalists, while the more racially tolerant attitudes of the later American presidents would pave the way once again for the suppression of anti-Tsalal bigotry and long-delayed progress on civil rights.
    • Electoral symbol- red/white/blue roundel.
    • Electoral color- light purple
Extinct parties:
  • The Nullifier Party was founded on the principles of Jacksonian democracy, opposition to tariffs, and defense of the peculiar institution. These policies regarding the tariff and slavery questions would play a key role in setting the stage for the Civil War, and following the reassertion of Federal control the party fell into disarray, eventually being absorbed by** the Southern branch of the American Party.
    • Electoral symbol- turquoise/yellow/turquoise roundel
    • Electoral color- turquoise
  • The Readjuster Party began life as a Southern affiliate of the Federalists focused on building interracial solidarity among Southern smallholders and agricultural laborers against the political machines and large landowners catered to by the Americans and would come to embrace and absorb the nascent American Socialist movement and finally gain branches in the North and West. The Fourth Party system saw the Readjusters become more radical as a direct consequence of the Federalist shift away from civil rights, with the party adopting a more aggressive stance on integration and the balance of power within the party shifting further toward the Sorelians despite state persecution. Outreach from presidents Blair and MacReady would gradually pave the way for a rapport between the Readjusters and the Americans, a rapport that would mature under president Schofield into an unlikely fusion of the two in the wake of the end of the Dread Calm.
    • Electoral symbol- hive monkey***
    • Electoral color- orange

*Based on the OTL precedent that the American Party in the South downplayed their traditional allegations of a grand Papist conspiracy 🤔

**Or parasitizing, depending on your view.

***Hive monkeys were imported in large quantities into the antebellum South in Green Antarctica and I've had the party adopt what was originally a spiteful slur assigned by their opponents as a symbol of agricultural labor that has evolved into one for collective action, communal principles, and civil rights.

I've been having tons of ideas for my little project (including the Tsalal version* of the classical elements I'm pretty excited about!) so I decided to do another political party post to limit the sheer amount of lore I'd have to pack in the actual flag posts. Without further ado, have some parties for the other major blocs!
  • The Europan Syndicalist International, colloquially known as Indivisible, is the dominant political force in the Republic of Europa. Founded on the ideology of Marxist-Sorelianism, the ESI is not actually a political party in the traditional sense (rooted in Sorel's rejection of Blanquism), but rather a paneuropean syndicalist labor movement. Operating on a hybrid industrial union-one big union model (like the International Workers of the World), Indivisible connects workers from all strata and walks of life, including areas that aren't traditionally unionized such as peasants, prostitutes and university students. Melding a harkening to the mythologized shared cultural history of Europe with the power of the general strike, the ESI exerts influence over all walks of life in the Republic, and though elected offices are officially nonpartisan the fact that union membership is mandatory makes anyone of any prominence by definition a card-carrying ESI partisan. Originally one party out of many, the consolidation of the European federalist experiment in the wake of the Second Cold War coincided with the group effectively mobilizing its base, marshalling a massive share of votes and the Damoclean sword of the general strike to consolidate control and refashion the new Republic of Europa into the world's first internationalist socialist state.
    • Electoral symbol- eagle gripping a fasces
    • Electoral color- dark red
    • International affiliation- Syndicalist International (Syndintern)
  • The Albionic Machtist Front is the only legal party in the Directorate of Albion, and has maintained ironfisted control of the country since before the outbreak of the Second Cold War. Born in the chaotic aftermath of the First Cold War and the fall of the British Empire, the Machtist movement satisfied the angry demands of the British public for a change to the system that had so catastrophically failed them. Advocating a brutally clear-eyed and totalitarian utilitarianism with the window-dressing of a republican government, the AMF was the driving force of the Second Cold War, and following the failure of the European campaign has taken the country into "Glorious Isolation". The system festering in Albion has refined itself, generation after generation, but despite being denounced far and wide the popular will does not currently exist for what would surely be a horrendous invasion and an open-ended occupation.
    • Electoral symbol- stylized diamond/lightning bolt ("vajra")
    • Electoral color- dark purple, white
    • International affiliation- Crystal Pact
  • The Tsalal Hegemony doesn't have much experience with political parties in the modern sense, being a relatively recent addition to Tsalal politics. That being said, as a continental political/economic union the various caucuses within the organs of state have gradually coalesced into what we might recognize as parties. These caucuses are largely divided into two camps, with minor groups floating around the edges.
    • The Carmas represent the maximalist position, favoring constant expansion and confrontation with the Atlantropan and Pacific powers of the Old World, and a consequent expansion of military spending and mandatory conscription.
    • The Shaghut favor a policy of consolidation and defense, arguing that gains should be held but that expansion was unnecessary in the face of the certainty that their enemies would see the error of their ways and come around to the Tsalal way of thinking. This group favors containment rather than a rollback of the lower world peoples.
    • The Hive Monkeys are the largest of the minor factions, advocating for the adoption of Marxist-Sorelianism adapted to Tsalal conditions. Most popular in the Knaaresh Confederacy of all places.
    • The Albatross focus on importing American-style democratic capitalism and opening up trade ties with the other blocs. Most popular in the Regency of Hali.
    • The Cluster Worms are the resident environmentalist party, advocating peace with the northerners as the necessary first step to forging the international cooperation needed to deal with climate change. Originally the smallest faction, they have begun to grow rapidly as rising temperatures and ozone depletion ravage the Antarctic ecosystem.

*Suitably alien I promise, but rooted in the material from the OG thread all the same!
It is perhaps surprising that the Tsalal peoples of Antarctica maintained roughly a generation of isolationism in the wake of the disastrous Cook Contact (1774), especially considering their comparative advancement in weapons technology, but it is crucial to evaluate this in the Tsalal context. After all, these people, possessing the oldest continuous chain of civilization in human history, had for that entire time considered themselves the world's only inhabitants, separated from a theoretical people at the other pole by endless empty seas that, they believed, rose to a boil by the time you reached the equator. To see that entire worldview come crashing down was a harrowing and cataclysmic shift, though more material cataclysms would force an end to this policy of deliberately ignoring the peoples of the so-called "lower world".

The first of these was the Tambora eruption of 1815. With a deep seated collective memory of disastrous Taupō eruption of 180 CE, which had itself led to the extinction of roughly 80% percent of the Tsalal, it is understandable that the newfound knowledge of the wider world would motivate mass numbers to escape Antarctica by any means necessary. The most tangible result of this insane dash to escape would be the establishment of Qyutttttut, the oldest of the Tsalal colonies, in the region formerly known as Patagonia. The period also saw massive Tsalal immigration into southern Africa, western Australia and (in the form of slaves) the United States, and would also revolutionize the practice of modern warfare as Tsalal willing to trade anything to escape north inevitably led to the proliferation* of rocketry and the turbine steam engine that were already mature technologies in Antarctica at the time. These technologies would at first distract from the practical implications of the expansion of the Tsalal, with a series of escalating wars enabled by the new advancements leading to (among many other conflicts) the unification of Spanish America into the Republic of Gran Colombia and the mechanized inhumanity of the Crimean War, American Civil War, and Taiping Rebellion.

The second Tsalal expansion would come under similar conditions with the Krakatoa eruption of 1883. This new wave of refugees would tip the balance, with Qyutttttut massively expanding northward during a brief but brutal war with Argentina and the Tsalal in Africa and Australia carving out settlers colonies of their own that they would call M'bwun and Uluru, respectively. The expansion would bolster the Southern Pact, an alliance of European and American states arrayed against the Tsalal in the Americas, and would also bring the nations of the Tsalal into direct confrontation with the British Empire in a cycle of confrontation that would directly lead to the First Cold War. Aside from the British sponsorship of anti-Tsalal governments in Africa and Australia, the British would also take a direct hand in reconquering South Island (which had become a province of the Knaaresh Confederation) and would sink a small Tsalal fleet sent to reconquer it. These conflicts (and the British attempts to ally with the Crystal Islands against the Antarctic mainland) would spark a panic, and in 1899 the Tsalal Hegemony would be born, the first ever attempt at federation among the Tsalal as a whole.

The First Cold War would begin in 1900 when the so-called Starvation Navy of the Tsalal Hegemony began a massive naval war with the British Empire on all fronts. Historians have noted that the Hegemony had a decent chance of an outright victory if it had merely focused on securing and expanding its colonies. As it was, the Hegemony, consumed with fear of the British Empire, would instead gamble everything on a longshot bid to conquer the British Isles. Fever dreams of the British people arrayed in vast forests of the impaled, of rape factories and northern colonies had been rendered impossible by the narrowing of the armaments gap between the two sides, with the Starvation Navy unable to hold large swathes of territory and forced into a five year holding pattern of rocket bombardment and short-lived raids for supplies and women. The conflict would finally end when the Grand Coalition of European states, led by France and Germany, finally mustered an army to cross the Channel and relieve the British. With the Starvation Navy finally forced to withdraw and attempted Coalition counterattack on Antarctica proper a massive failure, the war would finally end with massive trauma and loss of life but no territorial changes in the northern hemisphere.

IndianLeague.png

-Taking the opportunity to revolt, the new Indian League was a loosely-aligned confederation. Nominally independent, its decentralization has made it an area of competing interest between the Republic of Europa, the Russian Empire, and the two Chinas.

Changes in the southern hemisphere, on the other hand, were immense. Aside from Uluru absorbing the western half of Australia and a Portuguese Africa bloated with refugees and fiercely opposed to M'bwun, Argentina had been reduced to little more than an urban sprawl around Greater Buenos Aires, firmly aligned with Brazil and Gran Colombia against Qyutttttut. American neutrality under President Pym would also badly damage the Southern Pact. As for the Tsalal, conflicts over the structure of their alliance and the failure of the Starvation Navy would lead to the collapse of the Hegemony for a generation. Ultimately the only thing that would revive it would be the outbreak of another Cold War...

Tsalal.png

-From left to right, the flags of the Tsalal Hegemony, Republic of Great Yag, Tsalmothua Consortium, United Queendom of Zhudan-Ghault, Knaaresh Confederation, and Dread Empire of Leng. Not pictured is the plain yellow banner of the Eternal Regency of Hali.
  • Flag: A stylized Antarctica on a horizontally bisected banner of black and yellow, representing the turning of the world around the Southern Continent.
  • Structure: Loosely confederated military alliance (first iteration), continental economic/military/political federation (second iteration).
  • History: Founded in 1899 and dissolved c. 1906, the first iteration of the Hegemony would rise and fall around the First Cold War, while the second iteration would form as a result of the outbreak of the Second Cold War in 1932 and survives to the present.
  • Custom: Slavery, cannibalism, torture, ritual murder (depending on region), genocide (historical).
  • Flag: A stylized representation of the famous Yag propensity for waterworks on a green field symbolizing the fertility of the Yag Basin, with red circles representing the all-important Yag berry.
  • Structure: Oligarchical republic, with an elected Forum. The current iteration of the Water Kings act as comptrollers for the nation's public works, and are appointed by the Forum.
  • History: Modern Yag history traces back to the War of the Water Kings, which saw the lowland Calendar Men conquer the upland Water Kings, establishing a new body of appointed Water Kings made up of lowland Yag**. This would in-turn create the eternal dichotomy of Yag, with alternating periods of domination by the Water Kings (so-called "Dry Seasons") and populist revolts to topple them and restore the tradition of technocratic republican decision making ("Flood Seasons"). Long disdainful of cannibalism, Yag is the center of the Anti-Cannibalism League and was the first polity on the continent to develop writing, sophisticated mathematics and glassmaking.
  • Custom: The annual drowning of slaves.
  • Flag: A Sunken City under a gray sky, with the blue level representing nearly-mythical Tcho-Tsui and the subsequent levels representing Tcho-Tcho and the other four major Sunken Cities of Tsalmothua.
  • Structure: Corporatist cartel with a legal monopoly on trade between Consortium territories and with other states. The five Sunken Cities are governed as corporations, with business interests and prominent families acting as shareholders.
  • History: Aside from being the ancestral homeland of the Tsalal race, Tsalmothua pioneered the agricultural package that would spread throughout the continent and was the first to discover the utility of coal. The creation of the Sunken Cities allowed the region to massively expand its powerbase, with a long history of empires, warring states periods, and corporate consolidation that would eventually birth the Consortium as it currently exists.
  • Custom: Cannibalism
  • Flag: A stylized crown and sword in red meant to represent the martial prowess of the Queendom on a gray field symbolically occluding God's vision.
  • Structure: Unitary theocratic absolute monarchy.
  • History: Originally founded by refugees from the Dragon Isles, following their settlement in Zhudan-Lul the Zhudan would establish a genocidal thalassocracy that would raid around the edges of Antarctica for centuries before gradually fracturing as a result of massive deforestation in the heartland of their empire. Their successors the Ghault would build on their predecessors' naval techniques, and through a more tolerant live-let live approach would become a dominant power after the Years of Blood and Steel, spreading the techniques for metal shipbuilding, papermaking and literacy, and the monotheistic Faith of the Malevolent. Originally divided between five Queendoms, a Zhudan-Ghault hybrid polity would arise in Zhudan-Lul during the Cosmopolitan Age that survives to the present day.
  • Custom: Violent xenophobia (among Orthodox Zhu), socially condoned alcoholism, matriarchy.
  • Flag: A Star of Knaaresh*** on a green background, representing the state religion and the fertility of the Dragon Isles.
  • Structure: Theocratic confederation.
  • History: Originally a patchwork of tribes, the Taupō eruption would see the formation of the Starvation Army and the invasion of the mainland during the Age of Blood and Steel, ending the Tsalal Bronze Age and ushering in the Steel Age in the process. The collapse of the invasion and the chaos of the period would see the formation of the Knaaresh faith in the Yag region of Azul, which would eventually cross over to the Dragon Isles. Originally a unitary empire, the region would gradually splinter into a series of petty kingdoms warring over doctrinal issues before eventually confederating in the wake of the Tambora eruption.
  • Custom: Human sacrifice, abstention from eating human brains.
  • Flag: A stylized Maw of Leng in black, with orange on the left representing the Leng proper and green on the right symbolizing their Ahz vassals.
  • Structure: Semi-nomadic theocratic empire ruling over sedentary vassals.
  • History: Long inhabitants of the highlands of Wang-Gash, the Leng would expand against the Ptahr following the suppression of the latter by the Yag, and would expand into the interior of the continent during the Years of Blood and Steel, in the process replacing the disparate Tsalal standards of measurement with their own. Although receded from their peak the Leng maintain absolute dominion over the Wang-Gash region and roughly half of the Ptahri highlands.
  • Custom: Extremely potent hallucinogens.
  • Flag: Plain yellow banner.
  • Structure: Republican elected regency.
  • History: Originally formed by refugees from the myriad wars of their neighbors, the Hali around Lake Vos were first unified under the first King in Yellow and became the first nation in history to deploy gunpowder in warfare. Growing rich off trade through its position at the center of the continent, the Hali became the beating heart of the Cosmopolitan Age. Abstaining from the first iteration of the Hegemony, the Regency opted to become an observer of the second one.
  • Custom: Recreational torture.
*The second POD, and the first one post-Contact, since it's unrealistic to me that rocketry and other Tsalal advancements would be regarded as a mere curiosity for up to a century in some cases.

**The first POD, creating a resilient republican tradition and butterflying the Necrophile Empire.

***The Star of Knaaresh initially only represented the quintet of gods considered by the faith but during the Cosmopolitan Age came to be accepted as a secularized model roughly analogous to the "classical elements" common in other societies. In this schema each tracks with a more conventional element and has an associated bodily fluid similar to the Greek humors. Clockwise from bottom-right:
  • Cold- ice, stomach acid (masculine)
  • Darkness- earth, blood (feminine)
  • Warmth- life, seminal fluid (feminine)
  • Light- aether, cerebrospinal fluid (masculine)
  • Fire- fire/metal/coal, urine (masculine)

As part of my effort to develop the Aguilaverse, or the world of The Eagle Reborn, here are the flags I used for the Republic of China and the New Republican Army that founded it. It's an unholy fusion of ROC elements from OTL Xinhai Revolution with things I added on my own and elements from elsewhere.

The Chinese Republic flag is based on OTL's "Five Races Under One Union" design, with the Beiyang star in the center. The purple of the border is associated with republicanism in China for the simple reason that its first contact with republicans was with the Spanish republicans of Macao, who used purple emblems as a badge. (And the other colors for the border I did not like).

Originally adopted as part of an effort to reflect the unity of the different peoples of China under one Republic, it would soon become a symbol of resistance against the efforts of Emperor Kim Rhee's evil Chinese Celestial Empire to impose Calvinism on China by force of arms and by extremely brutal methods...

The "Nuevo Ejército Republicano" (New Republican Army) would be one of the various fighting factions that would emerge in China after the outbreak of mass revolts against the "Movement to Eradicate Superstition", the violent campaign with which Emperor Kim Rhee he tried to uproot traditional Chinese religion by force to replace it with Calvinism.

Originally they were a small nucleus of republican soldiers who had wanted to attempt a Dekabrist revolution inspired by the one that had occurred in Russia: the rapid evolution of events would end up turning them into a big-tent army, where anyone who was a native of China was admitted, oppose the Chinese Celestial Empire, and be open to a future republican government.

While many of the NER's members were indifferent to religious practice (its most prominent leader, Commander Yihan Bei Fang, was known for her agnosticism), they would eventually oppose Calvinism and the Celestial Empire for the simple reason that they themselves they had been designated as "agents of Evil deserving of extermination" by the imperial authorities.

Jewish Belarus

The National Flag of Belarus

In a timeline where the Khazars make it further west, some Slavs convert to Judaism. The Kryvich tribes around Polatsk specifically take the religion seriously, eventually developing their own version (known as Kryvich Judaism) akin to Karaite Judaism OTL. Differentiated from other Jews by their rejection of the Oral Torah and numerous local traditions, Belarusian Jews use red ruchniks (traditional Slavic fabric weaves) as their prayer shawls. The segmented Star of David, known as a Kryvich Star, appears on the flag in the same way it does on prayer ruchniks.

Example of a prayer ruchnik, with examples of the three major Kryvich symbols: the Kryvich Star, the Holy Gate (a three-barred cross), and the Split Sea (anvil-like shape)

Prayer ruchniks are not standardised, but are generally expected to have at least one Jewish element. Traditionally, it is considered good luck to have all three Kryvich symbols, which are the Kryvich Star, the Holy Gate, and the Split Sea. The Kryvich Star is a mark of faith and unity of family/nation, representing the vision of Prince Ruslan of Minsk. The Holy Gate symbolizes security and safety, and represents the gates of Heaven (in Kryvich Judaism, ideas of Heaven and Hell were syncretized from neighboring Christians). Finally, the Split Sea is a largely abstract symbol thought to predate Judaism in the region, but it is said to represent the splitting of the Red Sea by Moses, bringing safe passage to those who wear it.

Notes:
-The Kryvich(ians) are a real tribe which existed, but there's not much historical record to go on. Belarusians consider them to be one of the predecessors to modern Belarus
-The star is inspired by traditional star/cross patterns which appear on OTL rushniks (also seen here in the logo for the Belarusian Christian Democrats)
-Ruslan is not a real historical person, just made him up. The Star Vision was inspired by Constantine's vision of the Chi-Rho.
-The Holy Gate is inspired by the Temple Menorah which was the most popular symbol of Judaism before the Star of David was popularized in Europe. It is a simplified version which also appears in some Kabbalah manuscripts. I took the name from the Holy Gate of Dawn in Vilnius (mentioned in the Belarusian song "Pahonia")
-The "Split Sea" symbol is a real thing which appears on a lot of weave patterns around the world, I just gave it a new meaning
-Ruchniks are a real thing and are frequently displayed in religious contexts, so I figured they might be used in Judaism if Belarus went in that direction.

Here a flag for a future TL of mine
It represent the Concert of Nation, TTL supranational organisation akin to UN or SON
The symbolism is based on a play on the word Concert, with an orchestra layout standing for both the parliament seats and an abstract representation of earth geography as in T-and-O maps. The meaning of the simplified parliament, torch and laurels is obvious, and the colors of the whole are based on French one TTL, since it is the principal power backing the organisation in the first days, even if nowadays they're associated with 'naturals colors of our planet'
