Here's the third flag for the timeline, in this case the scenario's answer to the pride flag!

As a consequence of my early divergence W.H. Pugmire becomes a filmmaker instead of a writer, releasing an experimental epic movie based on A Voyage to Arcturus in the late seventies. The faithful recreation of the novel's exploration of sexuality, gender and identity causes a firestorm in the Graham administration and it catches hell from censors and moral guardians but it proves to be a smash hit among the nation's sexual minorities. Pugmire uses bright green and violet as stand-ins for Lindsay's fictional ulfire and jale because of the long history of the use of green and violet by gays and lesbians (respectively) since the 19th century while the upward diagonal line represents forward progress for the community and the figure 8 represents both the solar system the book and movie take place in and also personal fluidity. Here's the description of the colors from the novel:

"Just as blue is delicate and mysterious, yellow clear and unsubtle, and red sanguine and passionate, so [Maskull] felt ulfire to be wild and painful, and jale dreamlike, feverish, and voluptuous."
I really like the design on this flag, but I would have to say that the use of bright colors really doesn’t do the flag a service. I think that it would be better to use softer colors, like using lavender purple (#967bb6) and a matching/complementary shade of green (#7bb696) or other similar colors. I think that doing something like that would really elevate this flag design.

Here's a less eye searing version, since even if it was the brighter color in the movie it would almost certainly be toned down to form a pride flag 🤔

Based on the positive reception to my President Lovecraft TLIAW I've been kicking around ideas for others. This flag represents an alternate Fascist Greece in a world where Bulwer-Lytton was made king in 1862. Neo-Byzantinism has nothing on this!

For anyone who may be interested, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this one and I'm going to make it into a Pre-1900 TL sometime this weekend. My tentative title is A Wine-Dark Sea: An Atlantean Empire TLIAW 😅

Interesting. I like seemingly-unconnected stories that actually take place in a single universe.
I put up a poll to determine whether my several TLIAW ideas get their own thread or are grouped into the same thread. They'd all retain the same level of connectivity either way but could still be absorbed individually.
I've had a few different ideas for TLIAWs that can be read separately or as an expanded universe with this one and I'm debating either grouping them all in this thread or making separate ones for each. I can't decide so I put up a poll! So far I'm mulling over:
  • A Wine-Dark Sea: An Atlantean Empire TLIAW- Mainly focused on Greece and an alternate history of occultism
  • In Black and White: The Rise of the Rational Anarchists TLIAW- The evolution of turn of the century American Egoist Anarchism
Let me know what you all think! If worst comes to worst I'll just ask to move this thread into pre-1900

Hello people! I made this one flag that is basically alternate history flag if Virginia, my home state (and namesake lol) went on to become a dominion! The stripes represent the east India company and the Dogwood is the official flower of the state! Please tell me if you like it! :)

IRL, the Savoia-Aosta and Savoia-Carignano branches of the House of Savoy were (and still are, even though Italy isn't a monarchy anymore) somewhat at odds with each other; the same can be said about Benito Mussolini and Gabriele D'Annunzio, to such an extent that the former was paranoid about the latter staging a coup against him: in 1922, shortly before the March on Rome, the poet almost died after a suspicious "accident" and, after the PNF murdered Socialist PM Giacomo Matteotti, the Fascist regime acconsented to D'Annunzio's every decadent whim, in order to keep him in a gilded cage, as they knew very well that the Vate had supporters on both sides of the political spectrum - even his own ideals, embodied by Fiume's Charter of Carnaro, were a rather unique blend of anarcho-socialism and nationalism.

IRL, both D'Annunzio and the Savoia-Aosta either went along with or were neutered by the Fascist regime and the main branch of the royal house, respectively; but what if Prince Aimone, Duke of Aosta and eventual King of the Independent State of Croatia, as well as Gabriele D'Annunzio, owing to slightly different events taking place before, during and after the rise of the PNF, had been able to depose both Benito Mussolini and Victor Emmanuel III in 1924? As the Fascist Party owed a lot to D'Annunzio, I doubt the poet would've banned it - I think he would've taken over the party, while returning it to its quasi-socialist roots, maybe even replacing the Statuto Albertino with a Charter of Carnaro updated to apply to the whole of Italy, before dying of old age in 1938.

I rejiggered my The King in Yellow thread into a hub for a series of interrelated week long TLs I've been planning! I made a second version of my Atlantean flag for it and it's likely going to have several flags scattered throughout

My Lovecraft timeline wrapped today! Have another flag I made for it:

It's a flag for a hate group called the American Workingmen's Party and is lead by George Lincoln Rockwell. The group was founded as a response to increased Jewish and Asian immigration during the presidency of Clark Ashton Smith in the late forties.
This fly on a brown background ..... Certain associations ....... Was this the intention?
Using a flag like this will cause a lot of press ostracism in this timeline.

It's actually a wasp 😂 also they're literal brownshirt fascists and one of them brutally killed a president on national television so they're treated quite seriously

WASP. Does this mean white Anglo-Saxon Protestants? Is this a play on words and symbols?
Yes, though it helps that "The Wasp" was a newspaper that supported the Workingmen's Party of California that preceded them in real life. The American Workingmen's Party is trying to synthesize Lovecraftian Fascism's command economy and rabid anticommunism with early Lovecraft's extremely acute racism and xenophobia.
