Shouldn't Islande be Iceland?
The flag of NAPO and all its members.
As in, if all the main Cold War era members were communist and not anti-communist. Wonder what the reverse would look like, perhaps called something like the Warsaw Treaty Alliance, headed by the Council of Christian Capitalist Protectorates (CCCP)?

These are flags for a Communist Sweden that arose during the 1920s after a Socialist Norway intervened and prevented a bloody civil war from consuming the nation (Though the intervention prompted an invasion from France and the United Kingdom)

Since the trailer shows the 'reverse' of the flag (traditionally the 'front' of a flag is with the hoist on the left) then your icon is correctly placed. And yes, I'm aware the icon is on the wrong side. I'm just too lazy to change it.
Here's my attempt at recreating the Soviet flag featured in the preorder trailer for Hearts of Iron IV.

Correctly placed but the icon doesn't look quite right to me. Looks like a red star over a larger gold star* made of rays (similar to how UK police badges have their stars). With each lowest or highest point stretching past the golden lines (and I counted 7 not 4).Since the trailer shows the 'reverse' of the flag (traditionally the 'front' of a flag is with the hoist on the left) then your icon is correctly placed.
Nice stuff! The Trst flag is a particular standout, and the Slovenian one with the Triglav and the stylised mountain for Crna Gora is very cool too. Given the "lack of connection" to historical symbolism, could see these being the flags of a SFRY that didn't do away with monarchist Yugoslavia's banate system.Alternate Yugoslav republic flags from a WIP project of mine. Mostly they're trying to display regional identity without referencing history or religion, Serbia and Croatia of course being exceptions, as well as Macedonia in a way. The aesthetic is meant to fit with a vaguely socialist look, so don't get pissed about the green on red.
Bosnia's flag has green for mountains and blue for the river Bosna from which it gets its name, and the many other rivers in the country
Montenegro depicts Lovćen, the eponymous "black mountain" and its rugged mountainous terrain in general
Slovenia has Triglav
Macedonia has the star repositioned to represent the sun as Macedonia is of course a relatively sunny republic, there is a very light nod to the Argead/Vergina Sun and Macedonia's OTL flag
Trieste's flag falls into the "Yugoslav flag in the canton" category to emphasize how NOT ITALIAN it is, and the symbol is just the Symbol used throughout Trieste following WWII, it was used in an unofficial Zone B coat of arms by the communists so there's no reason it wouldn't stay under Yugoslav rule
I take no credit for the coats of arms, they're all otl

Does this best suit a Sovereign State, or a Subdivision?
defo agree on this oneSubdivision imo.
But subdivision of a federal state rather than a unitary one.
Depends. The former if it's essentially a banner of arms. The latter if not.View attachment 683855
