Eastern Bloc.png

Here's a flag I made for the modern "Eastern Bloc", incorporating elements of the Iranian, Syrian, CIS, Venezuelan, Chinese, North Korean and Russian flags. Feel free to use it in any CWII or WWIII timeline so long as you give credit.
The blue comes from Venezuela's flag, the red from China's, and the white from... well, white.

Unfortunately it results in a mishmash of symbols that seems to ignore the history and meaning of the individual symbols.

This flag of Poland came to me I had in a dream once. They were under an occultist ideology called Bolopism, and they would take the role of Nazi Germany in some alternate world.

So, who wants to see some Star Wars flags? Anybody? Well, I'm going to post some anyways, so deal with it:

1578279074246.png

The first two flags are two variants for the Galactic Empire, everyone's favorite evil empire with the badass aesthetic that we all love. I made two variants here because blue and red are the most commonly-used colors to represent the Empire in various Star Wars media: Red is, obviously, because of the Empire's blatant Nazi Germany overtones, and that Red is the primary color of the Sith, namely the two of most infamous examples who lead the Empire. Blue, on the other hand, is because Red also happens to be the most commonly-associated color of the Rebellion, so Blue is used for thematic contrast; that said, Blue is an appropriate color for the Empire for other reasons, such as how it goes well with the iconic Imperial grey that is pervasive in Imperial aesthetic design, among similar reasons.

The next flag is for the Sequel Trilogy's main bad-guy faction, the First Order - the Neo-Nazis to the Empire's Nazis. And just about as effective. Well, aside from plot reasons. For all that they were built up as Big Baddies, Disney kinda fumbled their presentation.

1578279176229.png

The second and last flag for the Sequel Trilogy villain flags is for the Final Order: Emperor Palpatine's army of Sith cultists who built a massive fleet of Star Destroyers armed with mini-Death Star beams out in the middle of the Unknown Regions. And yes, Emperor Palpatine has inexplicably resurrected with no explanation. And no, I haven't seen The Rise of Skywalker yet, I've just read/seen tons of spoilers. Sorry if I spoiled it for you... but if it's any consolation, fan reaction is of the opinion that it's a trainwreck, but an entertaining one to watch.

Going back to the classic old Legends continuity for the last flag for tonight, here's a flag for one of the Imperial Remnant factions, the Pentastar Alignment. They're actually a playable faction in the Thrawn's Revenge mod for Star Wars: Empire at War, incidentally. Go check that mod out if you're interested, fun stuff.

That's it for tonight, until next time!

And here's a flag for the Western Bloc.

This includes elements of the flags of Brazil, Argentina, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India, Israel, the GCC, Australia, New Zealand and of course NATO.

Neat flags, but maybe you want to give people a spoiler warning in advance instead of after the fact.

Flag of Federal Republic of Rio de la Plata (1941-1945).png

(thanks to @Marc Pasquin for the flag) Flag of the Federal Republic of Rio de la Plata which was established in 1941 when Britannic Union (combination of Soviet Union and British Empire mostly) and Communist Uruguay defeated Argentina and liberated the recently annexed Paraguay. Afterwards the Uruguayan leader is made president of the union of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Bolivia was conquered in 1942-1943. The Socialist World joined the Second World War in the Allied side against the French State and Brazil in 1944. Next year Britannic Union bombed Natal and Salvador de Bahia (government had escaped there as Rio was considered too close to the front lines)(first use of nuclear weapons outside of a Britannic test). Brazil was divided with most of Brazil (all of South and Southeast regions, Central West outside of Mato Grosso and most of Bahia) being united with Rio de la Plata to form the Socialist Federative Republic of Sudamerica (Yugoslavia expy).
Flag of the Socialist Federative Republic of Sudamerica (1945-1967)[under alt!Tito].jpg

This was the Sudamerican flag during the rule of alt!Tito (the aforementioned Uruguayan leader) until his death and for a few more years until the new Argentine leadership got to changing it. In 1967 Chile joined Sudamerica and the new Argentina leadership decided that was a good excuse to change the flag.
Flag of the Socialist Federative Republic of Sudamerica (1967-1996)[argentine leadership].jpg

This was the flag used by Sudamerica after 1967 and until 1996 when the nation dissolved. (thanks to @trejiokla for the both Sudamerican flags)
Flag of Federal Republic of Sudamerica (1996-2000)[Argentina-Uruguay].png

And finally this was the flag of the Federal Republic of Sudamerica, known as Argentina-Uruguay or Argentina and Uruguay more often (expy of Serbia and Montenegro) that was established in 1996. Uruguay seceded from this union in 2000. Argentina returned to their pre-1941 flag and had to deal with a Patagonian War of Independence (Patagonia is Kosovo equivalent) from 2009 to 2014. Argentina still claims Patagonia (and the Malvinas, thought that claim was on hold from 1941 to 1992 since Sudamerica was partially a client of the Britannic Union).

A possible better fascist Poland flag, the symbol isn't even but you get the point.

Take a look at this:

1280px-Toporzeł.svg.png

It's called a Torporzel, and was created as a Polish nationalist symbol by Szukalski in the thirties. It's been repurposed since his death by crypto-fascist/neopagan groups in the country, so I think it'd work well.

Reminds me very much of the Vichy French symbol.

Some potential flags for a Kingdom of Portugal in a world where coat-of-arms on a flag is frowned upon. Thoughts? Preferences?

I decided to make a few small changes to this, to make it more inclusive/accurate:

Eastern Bloc 2.png

- Swapped Iran's symbol for a combination of the RSII Coalition's flag and emblem

- Swapped Syria's star with ALBA's coat of arms

- Swapped Venezuela's crescent of stars with Serbia's lesser coat of arms

- Swapped Venezuela's blue for Serbia's

Absurdly busy and just asking for internal argument about whose symbol is more prominent or wrongly placed.
International blocs tend to have single very nonnational symbols.

Those are nice! I like them a lot. I'm torn between the first and second ones as a main state flag, although a modern (19th Century) state would drop the cross and have only a bi-color blue-white flag, very simple but different from Britain's, France's or many other European major powers. The one with the cross can be used as a sort of ceremonial banner, maybe prime-ministerial or head of state ensign (red cross for the sea ensign, of course, like in the old sailing ships of the Discovery Age)

It's... not great. Like the Professor said, coalitions tend to create new symbols to avoid bickering over prominence. It's a practical thing. The Western Bloc would fly NATO's compass, which I find a perfectly recognisable, neutral and serviceable symbol.

As for the Eastern bloc, I think it's absurd to imagine a scenario in which all of these countries would unite against the West. It's equally absurd to think that, if they went with national symbols in their flag, they'd place Serbia's at the same level as China's, Iran's or the Russian coalition thing. Besides, it looks like the flag of Russia with some stickers on it. Like a Berkley guy went on an edgy backpack tour.

But it's salvageable. I think the colours and general shapes can point us torwars a direction. Since blue is the color of choice for the Western Bloc, this one should be red. Black is too ominous, white looks like surrender and green is too identified today with Islam (and Brazil). Red and blue are the only remaining colors that can have a positive spin on a flag.

You've got some stars, and white in the flags of Russia and the Middle Eastern Iran bloc. Blue is in North Korea and Venezuela, but I'd leave it out for simplicity's sake. Here's what I came up with:

Flag East Asia Union.png

Granted, there's no "iconic symbol", but if I could create iconic symbols, I would be working as an iconic symbol maker.

I'm not sure I agree here. There are plenty of modern flags that include a cross. If we include non-Christian symbology, nearly 1/3 of current national flags include religious design elements, albeit some as minor elements.

The world this Kingdom of Portugal inhabits never saw the rise of romantic nationalism or atheistic communism. European socialism is philosophically tied to Christian theology. There are more surviving monarchies in the West while republicanism is historically associated with mercantile oligarchies and despotic autocracies. In such a world, I suspect more flags bearing crosses would not be exceptional.
