It's been a while since I last posted any flags (as I've kinda ran out of ideas for any), but one thing that I've been trying to do was come up with a standardized system for Pan-Arab flag designs (as was evident in some earlier posts of mine here); while I've not quite accomplishing what I had in mind, I did end up with an altogether different set of flags for an alt-history scenario where the Arab states of the Middle East unified into a United Federation of Arabia, with each of the constituent states becoming 'Emirates' within the wider Federation, and each Emirate has their own flag. So, to start off with:
Here is the flag for the Emirate of Hejaz, of which the black-white-green tricolor with the red trapezoid forms the basis for every flag within the UFA, with the trapezoid containing the differentiating emblem that represents the respective emirates. Here, the Crescent & Star fills the role of representing Hejaz (historically governed by the Hashemite dynasty, and home to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina).
Next, the flag for the Emirate of Ha'il, which historically was once called
Jabal Shammar, and was home to the House of Rashid (long-time historic rivals to the infamous House of Saud). The Crescent & Star pattern here comes from the historic Jabal Shammar flag.
The next flag is, of course, for the Emirate of Nejd, the homeland of the infamous House of Saud (of which OTL modern Saudi Arabia gets its name from). The three swords are, of course, from the IRL Saudi flag but multiplied by three, to take the place of the Shahada.
The next flag on the list is for the Emirate of Yemen; the two swords on the flag here are supposed to be reminiscent of the
historical flag of the Kingdom of Yemen from 1927 to 1962.
The next flag here following the Yemen one is, predictably, the flag for the Emirate of Oman. It should come to no surprise that the IRL Omani national emblem is used here.
Next up is the flag for the Emirate of the Trucial States (an
old historical name for the IRL United Arab Emirates).
After that are the flags for the Emirates of Qatar (top one) and Bahrain (bottom one); if the patterns look similar, that's because the IRL flags of both Qatar and Bahrain share that same problem too.
The next three flags here are, in order from top to bottom: the Emirates of Jordan, Iraq, and Syria. All three flags are deliberately modeled after the IRL flags of Jordan, Iraq, and Syria during the 1920's, hence the increasing number of 7-point stars (Jordan had one while Iraq had two; while Syria also had one, I went with three to keep up the pattern, and because the Syrian flag historically had used three [5-point] stars at various points during the 20th century).
The second-to-last flag here on the list is for the Emirate of Kuwait, of which its emblem is
literally just the name of Kuwait written in Arabic, which appeared on the
Kuwaiti flag from 1899 to 1956 in various formats.
Lastly, the flag for the Emirate of Lebanon, which just has the Lebanon Cedar tree seen on the IRL Lebanon flag.
And that's all the flags I have for tonight - I have a couple others that are unrelated to the Pan-Arab theme of these flags, but let's have a little breather in-between posts, shall we?
Until next time!
