Tharangambadi
Tharangambadi, formerly the Danish East Indies, which includes a bit more hinterland than Denmark held in OTL, as well as the Nicobar Islands. Known to Europeans as Tranquebar, as a result of more able administrators and staying on Great Britain's good side after the territories were restored to the Danes in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars, the Danish settlements in southern India were actually profitable, and were not sold to Great Britain as in OTL. They remained Danish until independence in 1968. On the flag, the Danish cross is displaced and the canton enlarged, with wavy blue and white stripes symbolizing the name of the town, which means "place of the singing waves" in Tamil. The star, representing the aspirations of the citizens, is a geometric form sometimes found in the Kolam drawings common to the area.

Alaska
An independent Alaska if it had never been sold to America and if it were a federal republic in the mid-20th century.

The crescent and the star: later religions of Islam and Christianity.
Kangaroo: Australia.

Tharangambadi
needs some photoshop work

I will readily admit that my flags will never be the most elegantly drawn. If I ever win one of these contests (and I think I am fast becoming the Susan Lucci of these polls--look it up if you do not know the reference LOL), it will be on the strength of the concept.

You could always send me a PM and see if we can sort something out, like for that chart.

While I admire the work that goes into some quite ornate designs in these challenges, my preference in national flags is for the clean and simple. Thus my vote went to West Togoland.

That is usually my voting and design preference as well. My entry in this challenge is definitely at the complex end of my personal design spectrum.

The West Togoland is almost painfully authentic. I couldn't not vote for it, as much as some of the other designs appealed to my aesthetics, because it's exactly what an African nation reaching independence at that time would adopt.

So you prefer designs that are NOTauthentic and of a style that would NOT be adopted by a newly independent African nation? With respect, I find that an exceedingly odd attitude when applied to a a design challenge such as this, particularly as so many on this site cry "ASB!" so often about non-realistic approaches.

You have somehow interpreted what I said as the complete opposite of what I said.

I'll have to check but I believe that on one occasion I was involved in a 3-way tie for first.

Very thoughtful and creative entries this round guys; good work.
